Fellow cyclists! Who fancies joining me on either of these trips in September/October

I want to leave as close to the 22 September as possible as that's when I land in to Bangkok. This is an amazing trip but needs a minimum of two people, I'm so gutted!! I promise I'm pretty normal, a good road cyclist but by no means competitive or an athlete (i can do 40-50 miles in a day before I start to get tired).

Is anyone keen to do this?

You can do this yourself, without tour company. Buy a bike in Bkk, and pedal off. Much cheaper than these overpriced tours.

You can get plenty of advice here if you want.

Yeah - I would, but worried about travelling as a female solo traveller and without a guide (I get lost easily enough in London, let alone in another country).

Happy for some advice though!! If it's really possibly, maybe I should reconsider?

It's possible. I'm sure I get lost more often than 98% people on earth. I once drove, in a car, from one side of Hyde Park to South Kensington, got lost in the middle of a traffic jam and then drove all through London for 6 hours. My colleague said that I should have driven to M25 to go round London, that way I could reach South Kensington faster.

However, with the help of the greatest invention on earth, GPS and Google map, I managed to finish my Vietnam trip and Thailand trip, solo female biker without a guide!

The Thai and Vietnam people, especially those in country side, are mostly friendly, even though a lot of them don't speak English. I don't speak their language too, but even I could do it, so don't worry. Just make sure you've got your GPS and Google map, and enough battery.

I'm guessing your flights are booked. How long are you going for?

Have you ever cycle toured before?

Flights are booked and come back to the UK 20 Oct - but I want to meet friends in Cambodia early Oct.

No, I've not done any intense touring before - cycle everyday but thats just commuting and a few 50mile sportives this year.

Ha - yeah. Phone is pretty knackered and doesn't hold its battery too well, but I'll keep it in mind.

Thanks!

Cycling in Thailand is pretty easy as the road signs are in English and most roads have km posts with the road number on it. Not so easy in Cambodia, but there are fewer roads to get confused with, so not easy to get lost unless you go off into the wilds.

You can get good maps in Bkk. I cycled for years only using maps, but I do now have a GPS and Google tablet for when I get lazy or lost on off road rubber plantation roads.

I suggest you sit and think if you would like to sort this out yourself. As arti said, security is not a big issue if you are careful and dress sensibly. If you can ride 50 miles, 80 kms to us, then you should be fine.

The biggest problem is working out where you will stay each night. There is loads of budget accommodation from £4 to 10 a night, you just need a bit of planning.

You can get a train or bus out of Bkk to make things easier.

If you are genuinely up for it, I am happy to have a chat - I also live in the UK. Don't worry, I'll be in Korea when you are away, so I won't be following you.

Good advice from Simon that having done the same trip can agree with, I got the train to Ayuatthaya and started cycling from there. The is a good bike shop at the end of Soi Rambuttri close to Kho San road and if you can manage 50 miles a day should have no problem getting to a large town and finding accommodation.
