Is there anywhere to rent a decent bike for a ten day tour of Issan in either Bangkok or Khorat?
I rented a really nice Trek mtb in Chiang Mai last year for $100BHT per day and it was great.

You can rent a bike from Velo Thai, at Samsen 2, about 10 minutes walk north from Khaosan Rd.
I bought a bike from them a year ago. They were really helpful and very cool to deal with.
I was recommended them by a couple of Dutch girls who had rented bikes there. I think it
cost abt 5 euros/day for a decent mountain bike. Well that was for a month long rent, but anyway.
It is a small and rather inconspicous shop on a narrow side street. Their english isn't great but once
there I had no problem making myself understood. They sell quite a few bikes to foreign travelers who
want to pedal around Thailand, and then often buy it back some time later. Clean it up and then rent out.

Here's something I wrote earlier that may help you find Velo T:
If you are staying in the KSR area then Velo Thailand is the nearest bike shop. It is a small place, but they are competent, quick and cheap.
Velo Thailand, Soi 2, Thanon Samsen
The easiest way to explain how to get there is to start from the North West (or river) end of Khao San Road.
Turn right along Thanon Chakraphong (NB if cycling this is the wrong way along a one way street). In 200 metres you come to a large crossroads with traffic lights, go straight over. This is Thanon Samsen. The road almost immediately rises over a small hump back bridge over a canal, after this is a small side street on the right – Soi 2 (a Soi is a side street, they are named after the road they run off and numbered odd and even on different sides).
The bike shop is a few metres down Soi 2, on the left.
