Where does the time go?

Wow it's been a loooong time since I was on this site... I used to post here all the time!
How's everyone doing? What's the current hotspot for bike touring? I see Bill Weir just finished off a stint in NW India and is heading back to Thailand for a stretch.
I can't believe it's 8 years since I was last on the road, how did that happen?

Anyone have any news on riding in Tibet?

The fact that no one answered you for days testifies to what has happened to the Thorn Tree since you've been gone: most of the cyclists have moved to other fora like CGOAB. The TT used to be a mine of information and discussion, but it is becoming pretty abandoned.

hmmm i read the post, but the question is so philosophical...where does the time go.... i guess nobody know, that's why no one shows...??

I kinda miss bickering with the Striker and Betty Swollocks and Base and DoTravel... but I kinda lost the plot when they re-did Thorn Tree a while back.
Where should I go next? Got a landmark bday coming up in September and would love to get some fresh air.
Been to Asia a couple times, need a change of scenery... where's a good 4 week trip in Oct?

In know its Asia, but I am just finishing a trip to Taiwan (sitting in airport as I type). A really good place to cycle. Very cycle friendly with loads of facilities, bike paths, good shoulders, etc. Some stunning scenery. Very friendly people. I loved it. Cycled round the island plus a few other bits, covered 1700 kms.

October is good time to go as weather fine. Strong NE winds so go down east coast first.

Not as cheap as rest of SE Asia, probably about double Thailand, still much cheaper than Europe.

Google Suhua highway and Taroko Gorge. Then do again and put dangerous after those words.

Taiwan has 100 peaks over 3000 metres, not bad for such a small place.

The bickering kept things lively, and kinda tiring. Kinda couldn’t be bothered with it.

LP did go through changes and the older regulars and their knowledge and experience left. Reading through here now the newer regulars have left too. LP may have to do a lot of work to undo the abandonment.

I used to occasionally check what’s happening but early this year OYB disappeared. Today is the 1st time I’ve checked back and the site worked.
The older you get the faster time disappears. After 30 something years and have done my must do’s and now into the like to whenever. Used to manage a few months a year on the road but now I'm allowed the slow lane. A month, a year, whatever,

Thx for the tip Simon, that's funny, I actually was thinking about Taiwan as a destination, heard some good things about it and nice to hear you confirm that.
Sounds about the right size and shape for a three week jaunt... I'll put my thinking cap on and bug you for deets later.
