Hi!

Im planning to bike from Northen Europe to somewhere in Asia, I dont know exactly but Nepal or East China or something. One of the mustdothings is to bike on KKH from Pakistan to China.
I want to get started as soon as possible after august. I want to do it in a regular speed, not just as fast as possible, of course I want to see things and stay some days at places I like. The problem is that I heard that the border crossing from Pakistan to China is open from 1may to some time in september. So, at which month do u recommend me to start my travel so that I can make this border crossing? How long time have you spend on your trip from Europe to Pakistan? Its a very individual question, but in general ;)

Have a nice day!

Hi,

First of all let me wish you luck on your journey that you are going to do. I have done the trip along the KKH from Islamabad-Pakistan along the KKH through the KHunjerab Pass and across into China. But i did it in a jeep. The views are breath taking and the people along the way are very friendly and helpful (however no two people will have the same experience so please keep that in mind).
The karakoram Highway is open from 1st May to roughly end of September or October. After these dates it is closed as there are heavy snowfalls, rain and dangerous landslides. I went along the KKH at the end of May 2004 to Mid June. There were many cyclists from the UK and other countries cycling along the famous KKH upto the Border with Pakistan and China.

If you are going to start from Europe in August you might be leaving it quite late. This of course depends on your fitness level, how many miles you can do a day, road conditions and political situations etc etc..

The best thing to do is check the internet for travel along the KKH, you will find a lot of info by people, cyclists who have done this trip. You can visit my homepage to get a feel of scenery along the KKH ( some photos are from other places in Pakistan and some from Dubai). It is a very simple page so please look at other information as well.

Good luck with your trip
