I want to start a website that would benefit cyclists and certain other travellers but i have a difficulty getting started.

I am generally pretty useless at tech stuff. I get easily frustrated. Ive never even been able to figure out how to set up a blog using sites like wordpress or blogger.

I don't want to use a blog site this time anyway but i don't know which site is good to try to start with. I've stumbled upon something called Wix. I've signed up and hope it might not be too difficult. I guess i will probably make a few false starts.

Has anyone any good tips.

I really should do a course but i don't have money for that. I'm not really doing it to make money though i could potentially make money from it down the track.

If anyone wants to help me, get it started, i would be interested to talk to you.

You could consider to cross-post it on the Travel Tech branch. Maybe, they could help you with an easy do it yourself web/blog/whatever option... Good luck!

The wix site is a do it yourself approach to building websites. But maybe they could suggest ones they like. Thanks.

Are you familiar with crazyguyonabike?

Yes of course. The site i want to do is not for blogging. Its not about my trips or anyone else's. There's a gap in the information available for cycling tourists and certain other travellers and I would like to try to address that. That's all i want to say about it publicly at this point.

It may be hard to attract travellers and cyclists to the same site. We're so different.
They hate us as much as i dislike them

what about
[http://www.bicycles.net.au/forums/]

Maybe fred. I didn't know we all hated each other. But yes it could be difficult to atttract disparate groups but LP has done it and then discouraged lots of people.

Nothing is going to happen for a while as i've got a few other things bubbling along including i'm going to Alice Springs for a months cycling now. Yippee.

Crazy Guy on a Bike already fills most needs. It is not only for individual tourers blogging their trips, but has an immense amount of practical advice, forums, and so on. Why do you think something more is needed?

And saying you don't want to reveal it at this time isn't going to attract advice. Nothing worse than being asked to give free help to someone so they can line their own pockets later.

I don't like crazyguyonabike. I only go there to read the odd blog. And they are not doing what i propose nor is Travelling Two which is a cyclists website i like.

If you don't want to offer any tips that's your perorgative. Obviously if someone was helping me, they'd know a lot more about it.

When people are starting something, they tend not to broadcast to the world what their distinguishing feature is before they even get started.

I am a bicycle tourist who is also a programmer and I wanted to do a similar thing as you back in 2007. I spent a few months coding and created BikeTouringTips.com .

It is primarily for bicycle tourists, but, in truth, contains any information someone might want to add that would help bike tourists, such as, places to stay, eat, or buy quality food.

Check it out and see if there are things there you like. It would be great if you wanted to add to an existing site instead of trying to reinvent something that people may have a hard time finding.

Note that creating an innovative website without requisite programming skills will be both frustrating and a serious challenge.

Incidentally, I make no money from this site. It contains no requests for donation nor advertising.
