I need to buy some more robust tyres for my bike. Don't think they are up to touring. Going to be cycling in Central America later this year. Can anyone recommend some suitable tyres? I have a road bike, not a mountain bike.
Thanks!

We used Schwalbe Marathon Plus for 15000km from Europe to Vietnam.
700X35 they lasted.
Scwalbe tubes are a bit dear but they're also good. They seem to hold air forever.
I did rotate them between 2 bikes and by the end still had plenty of life.

Cheers, mate. I'll check those out.
Europe to Vietnam-what a trip! How long did that take you?

I commute on Marathon pluses and I hate them. They'll do the job but they're really uncomfortable. I use them for riding to work because a puncture will make me late, and because my commute is short.
Better to use a touring tyre than a commuting tyre. A Marathon Supreme would work well. It's more comfortable and rolls better than a Marathon plus and will cope fine on dirt roads.
I currently use Schwalbe Marathon Plus tour.
They are heavy, but the trade of is they are bullet proof, well not quite, but glass, metal and other sharpe stuff proof.
They are heavy at 750g each, but then you do not need to carry spare tyres. Rolling risitance is not too bad either, but its not a racing tyre so expect some noise.
I also have traveled some KMs on them (Alaska to Mexico) but not as much http://crazyguyonabike.com/doc/asia2
