Hey fellow riders,
Inspired by cycling librarians (see bibliobicicleta.org and magazine.good.is/articles/bike-libraries), I've hatched an idea to combine a cross-country tour of the U.S. + a love of books + a concern about racial/social justice issues to... give books away to people living in "book deserts" along the route. Thinking of calling it "Biking, Books & Black Lives Matter." Working title.

Has anyone out there ever done anything like this? I imagine partnering with libraries/book stores/community groups along the way, shipping books ahead and then distributing them from hubs. (Rather than hauling a load of books every pedal stroke of the way.)

Would love to hear any tips or resources you can pass along. Thanks!

You want a tip? Give away e-books! They weigh less and are easier to carry on a bike than paper books.

You must have different conditions down there. Here in Canada we have too many books. The growing problem is that icon-based smart phones have turned users into illiterate Neanderthals. But good luck with your project.

Soudns like an intersting project. But i have to say, certain sectors of the community don't seem much interested in reading these days. Since i've been on public forums, i've come across many people who don't read and are not interested in taking it up.

NEvertheless, plug on, research your project well. You never know what amazing adventure you will have.

I'm wondering if i know you from a blog on crazyguyonabike. Have you by any chance done a blog over there?
