I've been pondering over an off-road quick tour in Bhutan in October this year (it would have to be quick, the costs there are very high). Its not legal in Bhutan to travel independently, so I have to do it through an agent, and I'd rather use a local agent to plan a nice itinerary, preferably local trails if possible.

The problem is that there isn't a huge amount of information out there. A few Bhutan websites seem either hopelessly out of date, or quite dodgy in other ways. The bigger more reputable ones don't seem to have specialist knowledge of off road touring (although the one trip report on crazyguyonabike recommended a particular agency, but their website doesn't even mention bike tours).

So my questions:

  1. Has anyone any recommendations for good Bhutan agents?
  2. Anyone with information or sources on good off-road trails to follow?
  3. Anyone interested in coming?

There is information on this in Trailblazer's Himalaya by Bike which is an incredibly detailed guide book. Laura who wrote it runs tours there. Her agency is Greenrock: http://www.greenrock.co.uk/. Even if you don't want to go with her agency it is worth contacting her for information.

@Albin, thanks for that link, I managed to miss that.

@ monkeypike - I have Lauras book, its great. I didn't realise she had a travel company now - it looks really good, I'll see if she can help out with contacts (I was considering doing the route in the book, but I just feel more like doing off-road touring for a variety of reasons now).
