Hello all,

I bought 2 spare tires a few years ago. Probably 6 or 7 years old. They've been put inside a shelf since then and I wonder if I can still use them. The look and feel by hand seems ok, but I'm not sure if I should try them on the road cause there's no bike paths near my home and I have to ride on roads next to cars right away. Or should I just toss them away and buy new ones instead?

Normally I would say you can keep them om the shelf for about 5 years.
Just pump the tires up and see if it shows any cracks, because they could be too dry after all those years.

Some people deliberately age tyres - in the dark of course as light promotes deterioration. It makes them harder and then they wear more slowly. But as #1 says, if they aren't badly cracked up, they are usable. I've used much older tyres, until they fell apart. Maybe not to take on your round the world tour, but certainly for local riding.

Thank you. was going to try out over the weekend but unfortunately, we've got a red rainstorm this morning. I'll report the result when weather goes fine.
