Hi there. I toured Philippines solo for 7 weeks last year - Luzon, Negros, Panay, Bohol.. I did not much enjoy it though.. But the reason could be that it was my first country in Asia to tour after Japan so first one to see poverty, felt a bit unsafe at times and also could not find places to pitch my tent so spent more then expected on accomodation. Yes, food was not good but eatable. Many times people / children were asking for money but on the other hand also encountered great hospitality! Much more enjoyed the Visayas, would not go touring Luzon again at all. I toured in Christmas time as well so great opportunity to see the holiday season - warning though that all the tickets for ferries were sold much in advance! Also, after taking your bike on a ferry make sure you wash bike thoroughly - it was not obvious to me and my chain got red from rust and had to be replaced after one month.
I put some info in my blog http://www.ewcyna.com/category/azja/filipiny/ - go to English in upper right corner but not sure the google tranaslation is corrected.. :(
I hop you enjoy the country, best! E

I cycled for a week in foar northern Luzon, one week in Palanan and then one week in Palawan. Loved it. Best of all, in remote places, someone always spoke English!
