Nice route for Armenia?Interest forums / On Your Bike
We're about to cross over from Jolfa Iran to Armenia. Having a full month to play over there we are looking for tips on what to see, cycle and what not. Most people don't stay that long so I couldn't really find good blogs with tips on the internet ( and some of them were blocked by Iranian government) Thanxs for the help!!!
You'll find it quite interesting to move from Iran to Armenia, a Christian country. Be careful along the road from Jolfa to the crossing. Don't take photos. It is amazing scenery but leave the camera in the bag. There is lodging in Jolfa and then not till after the crossing (in Meghri). You can not camp between the two places. From Meghri you have a long climb to the pass then a great down. Leave early! Personally I am not into Christian relics and the highlights of the country, for me, were the natural geography, the Soviet remnants, and above all, the genocide museum. Visiting that in Yerevan was a life-changing experience for me. | 1
Thanxs Noel - which road did you take from Meghri? Our map is a bit confusing which one is the minor (and there fore more beautiful?) road. | 2
I assure you they are all minor roads in that region. | 3
Thanxs - but you still din't mention which road... | 4
Wow - we took the road which is cloasest to Nagora Karabagh and it's amazing beautiful and quiet. It took us two wonderful days to get to Kapan with lots of climbing but we loved it! | 5
