Hi bikers

I live in SE Asia and need a new bike frame. Touring or Mountain bike geometry. Steel. For 26" wheels and 2.35" tires. Like to use a front fork 85mm or 100mm.
Any idea where to get in my neighbourhood(maybe Singapore?) or where to order?

Thanx Fritz

There is a recommendation for an excellent steel framed mtb in this recent thread. It would be hard to find better value in a new steel frame, even allowing for the sterling exchange rate. If you email Brant at On One (link in that thread), he should be able to give you a price on posting to Vietnam - he might even be able to arrange for one to be sent from Taiwan, where they are made.

Otherwise, if you do a search through here you'll see that the best bike shops in SE Asia are in Bangkok, but they mostly do major brand alu frames. There may be something in Singapore, but I'd suggest a steel frame would be quite hard to find.

Some Kona mtb frames are actually made in Vietnam (I've never been able to find out where exactly). It might be worth having a look around to see if the factory isn't too far from you, you never know what might fall out the back of a truck....

You might try searching the classifieds on criagslist and thaivisa.com - that's what I did and found a great Trek for about $100. Otherwise, there's about a half dozen good bike shops in Bangkok (Google it), but be warned - prices are about 20% higher here than in most other countries and the selection is somewhat limited. Another tip - avoid the Cannondale distributor in Bangkok (and in Singapore) their reputations are, how should I say, less that sterling.
