It is only 2 days ride from Bangalore to Mysore and the back road (not the 275 which has been 4-laned) is best. From Mysore just go up through Hassan and Belur. It is one of the most beautiful parts of India. After the Jog Falls there are a few ghat roads you can take down to the coast. Personally I'd suggest you do most of the ride up on the plateau and not along the coast. You will eventually get to the coast but inland Karnataka is better for cycle touring.

I haven't been to India for a while, but in the past I have used taxis to get my bike from airport to somewhere nicer. Also used when my partner got sick.

The old Ambassador cars often have roof racks and you can also get another bike in the boot (trunk).

Make sure you know the rough price for the trip before you start negotiating.

We cycled this last year, other way round. It's a great trip!!
From Mysore via Madikeri - Puttur - Bantwal (skipped Mangalore) to Udupi (back country roads), then the (not crowded) coastal road to Gokarna (stil a great place), enter from Aghanashini, not from highway.

Good luck!!

So put me on a highway, show me a sign, take it to the limit, one more time (The Eagles)

I cycled in the opposite direction about 5 years ago. My route took me from Gokarna to Jog Falls then back down to Kollur and as far south as Udupi before scaling the Western Ghats via Mudigere, Belur and Hassan to Mysore.

I'd highly recommend a visit to Belur for the astonishing sculpture at the temple.
Try a taxi from the airport. On my last day in India I had to catch a taxi about 70km as I'd run out of time and was stunned by how cheap it was - less than a 10km taxi ride in Australia. A quick search also shows regular bus services from Bangalore airport to Mysore - Flybus.
