Hi Robin - a few months ago I tried to take a bike on the train from Tangier but apparently it is not allowed so I used buses instead. It was never a problem taking a bike on buses and from other reports it's quite normal. However I have wondered if a boxed bike would be allowed on trains especially for a long trip say Tangier to Marrakech - maybe posters on the Morocco branch will be able to answer this.

Correct - bicycles are not allowed on trains. If you just lean your bike against an outside wall at the train station, the security guard will tell you it's not allowed. Buses accept bikes without any difficulty. In some cases, the holding area was large enough for us to wheel our bikes right on without taking the wheels off. There was a charge for the bike. As well, it costs to bring luggage. They charge per PIECE, not by weight. As we were there 3 years ago, I don't recall the cost.

Traveling for years in Morocco.

  • Every bus takes bikes, cost depending on your station and the staff.
Sometimes it's by weight - like in Casablanca on the CTM buss station (CTM is one of the best companies)
    Sometimes you have to negotiate.

  • We've got our bicycle three times in the train. Twice from Casablanca airport - but that's forbidden and up to the staff. Costs where free. And once from Marrakech.
