looking for bike touring partner in New Zealand

Interest forums / On Your Bike

Hi!

I am planning to going to New Zealand sometime around February 20th, for a month or so. I am looking for a bike touring partner. I have a fair amount of touring experience, but have never been there. I am a 30-something year old female who can deal with bike problems and surprises. I am hoping to put in some "long-slow/moderate distance" days to get miles in for mountain bike racing this summer in the US. My touring bike can be used for mountain biking too - just gotta take off the bags! I'd also strongly consider traveling around in a car and doing a bunch of mountain biking (in which case, I would bring a better mountain bike). I like to eat yummy food, get in the water to surf and snorkel, hike, and drink local libations. Male or female partners, or a small group would be fine, but I'm only interested in plutonic partners.

I would also consider changing destinations for another touring trip with a fun group proposing something cool! I just need to take a vacation any time from mid February- April. Thanks! Erika (aka "girlwithbike")

So you're looking for someone from Pluto or into rocks;-) (plutonic - of igneous rock that has solidified beneath the earth's surface; granite or diorite or gabbro)

New Zealand is a great place to tour and you'll meet lots of others doing it in campgrounds and hostels. I wouldn't worry about finding someone beforehand... Lots of hills to get the legs in shape too.

Tahoe is a nice place... remember going down there for an outrigger race... Would love to join but a month of x country skiing awaits me... then maybe cycling in Cuba, Central America and maybe even South America.

Have fun:-)

LOL, I think platonic is the word you were looking for...

I'd have a look for some NZ MTB forums - I'd have thought you'd have more luck there.

Hope you like riding in the rain, Repeat, rain gear!!!! The hills will get you in shape, no problem . If you head down to the South Island, go to the West Coast you will run into lots of touring friend every day if you don't find anybody to join you before you leave.
