Canada / USA trip

Interest forums / On Your Bike

Can anyone recommend a good week long cycle trip on the eastern side of the States or Canada in May or June. Also looking for someone to join me. I'm a 35 year old South African currently working in Bermuda.

Acadia park in Maine is nice.

Nova Scotia is also good and Newfoundland is sort of a far out place - neat to experience. I rode from Halifax to St. john's last June. Good scenery, few cars, good climate, etc... both good cities. Newfoundland is wide open - could go explore there - I didn;t see much of that region, but liked it. Nova Scotia is good, you have the Cabot trail in the north which is nice - I wouldn't say the top highway in the world (as sometimes proclaimed), but good for bike riding...

Gaspé Peninsula short loop. I have pictures here and text here. The south portion up to Gaspé is reachable by train with Via Rail.

PEI and Cape Breton island sound nice too. They're on my to-do list.

You can cycle a good bit of the scenic New England coast of NH/ME in a relatively short time. Check out if the "Maine Greenways" still has a web page up. A day or two of the ride is on the route 1, without much scenery-but that gets you to Acadia. Before that are quite a few steriotypical NewEngland coastal towns (picture book-ish).

In ?2003 there was bus service from the town outside Acadia to Bostons South Station bus terminal.

~Cheers from Bangkok, soon to be back in Beantown!~
