Best Iranian - Turkish Border for a cyclistInterest forums / On Your Bike
Had planned to cross from Iran via Iraq but have heard that it's only from the Turkish side you an get the the 2 week visa at the border, From the Iranian side seems you already have to have a visa which you have to go to Tehran for. I'm trying to avoid going there (no offence to my Tehran friends but I'm guessing Tehran is not a cyclists dream) So looks as though I'll have to cross to Turkey. Heard there are 2 borders: Bazargan and Serow. Seems that Serow is the quieter one so probably best for a cyclist and I've read there is good scenery leading there but I'd really like to hear from anyone who's cycled it and what their recommendations are. Thanks
We have ridden over both of them. The Turkish side of the Serow crossing includes a 2,700M pass that would be closed for much of the year but it is fine in summer. Other than that there is no issue. The Serow crossing is much quieter and more pleasant. Maku did not impress us either. If you go over at Serow you end up in the salt lake region which is interesting. | 1
