Hi folks,
gonna travel around Thailand and Myanmar soon.

Thought, that Tak might be a good place for Loy Krathong this time. Any experiences or recommendations? Agoda has very limited choice for Tak anyway and nothing around 17th Nov 2013. We don't have a guidebook for Thailand and it probably would be outdated anyway...

Anyone that knows a good Guesthouse /inexpensive Hotel in Tak (not Mae Sot like Agoda recommends, since we want to participate in the celebrations in Tak city)?

Otherwise other recommendations for Loy Krathong without heaps of tourists like in Chiang Mai? Been in Chiang Khong last year, so that kind of local thing...

Thanks for your help,
Anja

I cycled there a few years ago. Just rode into town and found a local cheapy. Wouldn't be on websites or in the now much more upmarket LP Guide. On tour at moment so don''t have access to my diary so don't know name, sorry.

I stayed in Nan for that festival a couple of years ago and didn't have any probs with accom, so hopefully you will be alright.

If you don't want to risk it you could try posting on the Thai branch.

I presume you are not planning on going to Burma from Tak. The border is only open for very localised travel, unless things have changed recently.

Enjoy.

The Sanguanthai Hotel/guest house i just rolled-up. Decent enough. Clean.opted for a fan room with shower. Has wifi here and balconies. May fill up for Loy Kratong(i wonder) seems like the town is getting ready for it, but then again it may always have that festive feel. The hotel is located on a road that runs parallel to the market road. behind the 7/11 on the corrner and down a short interconnecting alleyway. Well located i thought i,ve had a nice stay here and thought perhaps one more night as in deciding which route to take further north.
