We chose a 3-day tour of Ha Long Bay spending 1-night on a Chinese junk and the last on Cat Ba Island in a hotel. The junk was a big surprise, not being what we expected at all. We were prepared to sleep on the floor, which I have done – have even slept in caves - part of the experience and all that. It was an excellent experience. Ha Long Bay

Hi,

My parents (60-ish yrs) are coming over from Oz and we are wanting to do an Anzac Day tour together, with a few more days around Turkey either beforehand or after.

Can anyone recommend a good tour company that won't be full of young drinkers and party goers? Don't really want a silver tourers tour, but somewhere in between.

many thanks
EL

I am taking my mum -75- from uk to aus for 4 weeks mid march to mid april 2008. She has a brother in Brisbane so will hang around this area for a few days but plan to go to Fraser Island, Noosa or some other places around the area - any suggestions? Would it be best to hire a car ?
Also what weather can we expect and will box jelly fish be a problem?
I then thought of flying to Adelaide and doing Kangeroo Island, then on to Alice Springs and Uluhru - I then thought of Darwin and Kakadu . However I…

I normally travel solo, and now that I'm approaching 63 my wife feels that I should have travel insurance for Medical Emergencies. Previous travels have included SE Asia, Cen. Amer., this year is an Amazon River trip for a few weeks and as I'll be on cargo boats, she feels it just may be a smart thing to obtain insurance. Do any of you other travellers have an insurance company name in the U.S. that will cover older travellers? Thanks in advance for your input.

For those kind enough to read my ramblings as we cruise around the South Pacific: I've just posted a new batch on that branch. We've left Tuvalu and are now in Kiribati for about a month and will then head for the Marshal(l) Islands where we will wait out the cyclone season. Mauri and ko'raba (greetings and thanks)

Just back from a long weekend in London, England, which seems an extravagant trip from New England. However, it was my grandson's 14th birthday gift and his first trip abroad; I thought a week out of school and traipsing around would be too much for both of us, so crammed everything into 3+ days. It worked out well, with the Spurs soccer match the favorite. I forgot how much teenage boys eat and sleep, but since he ate mostly chips and fast food, it was not expensive (although I longed for…

In Banos I decided to go exploring. I took a bus to Rio Verde, got off and asked to be directed to the Paillon del Diablo---a waterfall called the Devil's Cauldron. The guidebook said it was a 15 minute walk. For me it was a 30 minute up and down (mostly down) climb. The waterfall was well worth it and with a little more climbing I had a perfect viewing spot. I also viewed the falls from a rickety hanging bridge over the rushing river with a sign saying no more than five people could be on…

Hello,

I spent 3 weeks exploring Thailand last winter and will return on Nov 14 th for a minimum of a month. This year, I plan to explore the islands with the thought that I may want to make this a future winter retreat.

I am an avid sailor but may consider buying a power boat after I explore the islands. Does anyone have any ideas for a solo traveller regarding cruising the islands cheaply? I will be starting out from Phuket. Which islands attrack boaters and why?

Cheers, Sarah
