Ok so I am not really sure that this where I am suppose to be posting since I am not a senior. But I have been some research for my grandmother who is planning to take a trip around Europe. She will be traveling with a tour group but are there any tips that anyone could offer her out there? In particular about safety?

After quite a few years happily jousting keyboards with Generation X and Y types, I've only just discovered there's a Branch for the more 'mature' traveller.
And what do I see ? Posts about blistered feet and snoring !! Oh my God, has it come to this ? Perhaps so.
I have just been abused in another Branch by a pimply 20 something because I am retired already (at 55), and my self-funded pension pays me more than my salary did. I had to explain what 'self-funded' meant, because Johnny (enjoy…

Posting here to see if any of you are professors or teachers who have been able to get into any or all European museums for free with your school or college ID. Of course I am speaking of those museums that actually charge admission as opposed to the free museums found in London. I 'm researching an article for a travel webiste; www.journeywoman.com and any information would be welcomed. Thanks in advance.

A flight to country A costs $600. There is a flight to country B that has a four-hour layover in country A that costs only $350. Can a passenger on the B-bound plane flight who is carrying only carry-on luggage disembark in A and save the $250?

In the initial stages of arranging a trip, the highlights for me the Pushkar Camel Fair and a trip to Dharamshala via Amritsar. Have any of you well travelled TT'ers done such and if so, can you recommend any accommodation. So far, I gather we will travel from Delhi to Amritsar by train and by road to Dhar. We will also being to Jaipur, Jaiselmer etc. but have recommendations for such places. Any hidden gem we shouldn't miss will be appreciated. This is the fun part - we have 'til October…

My stay in Dinajpur was pleasant and restful. The town was quite rural, my hotel room was very cheap ($3.37) and the people, as usual, were very interested in 'this foreigner.' The sights in town were minimal (a falling down rajbari (palace) but with two bright working Hindu temples). The streets were the interesting part---a pair of boney oxen plodding down the main drag; a group of women using hammers to pound on new bricks to make pebble-sized pieces used for road construction; the Hindu…

I went with ´Kia-Koe´ tours, as recommended in LP, and I was quite happy with both of the tours I opted for, firstly the full-day tour and then the afternoon/half-day ´Akivi Tour´. I must give credit to Alexandra, the guide for the full-day tour, who made the day worthwhile. Although a mainlander, Alex came to Rapa Nui 13 years ago and to join her father, an archeologist with almost 40 years of experience in Rapa Nui and elsewhere around Polynesia. Alex knew her ´stuff´ first-hand and was so…

Admittedly, I haven´t been posting my travel journals here lately, although I do still spend about 6 months travelling every winter, plus I do enjoy the travel journals of other travelers; however, it just seems that others have already posted on the places I have visited recently. Further, usually it is Lor and I simply follow her tracks; so thanks Lor! However, she actuallly asked me post on this particular journey to Rapa Nui so, here goes.

Rapa Nui, or Easter Island as most of us will…

So finally I was boarding the plane the following Saturday in Sydney. The thirteen hour flight went pretty well and we were circling above buenos aires to land. But we were put in the usual holding delay and we were almost out of fuel. So the pilot decided to divert to Montevideo in Uruguay to avoid an emergency. Fair enough but once on the ground the problem started. Montevideo doesn´t handle a loaded jumbo and Qantas doesn´t have landing rights. They allowed us to land because of the…
