OK, I am finally doing it! Just confirmed my ticket for Oct 1 to Delhi. This is going to be my first trip to India; current plans – beyond staying for a month - are totally up in the air. Well, 2 or 3 nights in Delhi to let mind and body get caught up. Then maybe train to Amritsar.

I am a New York City native, professional photographer (40+ years of making my living with a camera), friend of Bill W., and old enough to have come of age when Flower Power was in bloom.

Based on pursuing guide books and forums, I am figuring that I probably want to spend some time in Amritsar, Bundi, Pushkar and of course Agra. At least a day to see the Taj, anyway. And Darjeeling. Nothing definite except trains – lots of trains! Big ones and little ones; short rides and overnighters. I love trains and ridding them will be a big part of the trip for me.

I am basically a budget traveler and despite the graying hair, am still pretty much of a backpacker type; I’ve logged many happy miles on chicken buses in Latin America and rarely opt for anything beyond “budget” lodgings.

I am not looking for someone to share the entire month: I will probably want to go off and photograph people and places and just palin be on my own for a good part of the trip. On the other hand, it would be great to meet with one or more travel partners – male or female - along the way to share a few days at a time, maybe a train ride. Whatever works.

Sounds like a very good trip up ahead for you. Three years ago I spent a couple of weeks in the northern part. Certainly one month there is "mo betta". For photography you might wish to consider a stop in Varanasi. That ancient, historical city by the Ganges will "blow your mind"! There are some budget places overlooking the river. Check the LP guide. Only other advice is to be super careful with your valuables. Happy travels!
