Hello! I've always travelled alone but you meet a lot of people along the way and so you end up travelling with other people for part of your journey. You might find you feel apprehensive before you start (especially in the last few days before you leave on your trip) but once you are on the road (and especially after you have secured your first night's accommodation in a new country) you will gain confidence and start enjoying yourself. I have been to some very quiet places and so haven't talked to any other travellers for days or weeks at a time. Of course, I talked to the locals but conversations were a bit limited by language difficulties or the fact that they only wanted to ask about marital status, salary, etc. In these circumstances, when I have met up with travellers again, if we did not fall naturally into conversation, I have sometimes asked if I could talk to them for a little while and have always received a friendly response. If you go too long without the society of like minds then you can get a bit isolated. (I always remember that when I started travelling in Asia when I was much younger, I set out with an old schoolfriend who had travelled in Asia before. She said to me that, if we saw a lone traveller in a restaurant, we might think of asking them to join us in case they felt like a bit of company as she had been in that situation before).

Anyway, I do wish you luck and happiness in your travels. I'm sure you'll enjoy yourself.

What #1 says is spot on, although I never feel isolated if there's no other travellers to talk to; I prefer mixing with the locals as that's why I travel in the first place. And it is much easier to meet locals when travelling on your own as in some societies they can be too polite to interrupt a group of two, or rather intimidated by a larger group of foreigners travelling together.

Go for it, you'll have a grand time.
