Sunseeker, everyone is right - dont wait for the perfect travel companion, just go, and you'll meet people on the way. And they will be easier to shake off if they dont suit! Hostels are better than hotels for meeting people (my tip - avoid the ones that the guidebook says are "party places" and book a room to yourself). And if you haven't travelled much before, dont worry, all you need is a guidebook, common sense and a light pack.

Hi sunseeker

companions2travel.co.uk is worth checking - people post trip details so, if nothing else, it's useful for inspiration.

Hi:

I gather you live in the UK. I live in Chicago. I am also looking for a travel companion. While I agree that travelling on your own can really empower you,. I like being able to talk to someone, share jokes and have someone help with the planning. You don't have to be glued at the hip the entire time you are gone.

If you'd like to get some ideas or my thoughts on travelling alone feel free to contact me.

Cheers.
