Hi folks,

I'm new to this forum, so if i'm posting in the wrong area please bear with me.

I've finally got rid of the kids and have decided that nows the time to do the things i never got round to doing but always wanted to!

So here goes...........I am 50 yr old female looking to do some travelling to interesting / cultural countries. I am looking for a companion to do this with, preferably someone who has already done some extensive travelling. A good sense of humour is essential!

I've got no plans, dates or budgets set yet so im all up for any ideas offered. if anyone has the slightest incline or interest message me (unlesss you're an axe wielding lunatic of course)

IM And many other's HO traveling alone is much superior to being stuck with a two legged obligation, who;

chews and talks with mouth open, doesn't like museums, doesn't like talking to locals, is a Bible basher, is impatient, spends too much (only wants to eat with translated menus which cost more), is a general paon in the butt, doesn't want to pullown weight....on and on.....
The late riser wastes every partner's day.

Hostelz International memberships get you into a place with us older crowd(who's gained some life mileage wisdom, and not full of drunk inconsiderat kids.

You can rent a room for two. Rent one bed while hostel rents out the other. Or when I want privacy, I rent both beds. Often with private bath.

Half the fun of traveling is having leisurly conversations with other cultures and p.o.v.

Why not go home a l;ittle wiser than when you left?

I only prebook the first night or two, on a continent. Then I can change mind or route at last minute.

Hostels have washing machines and b'fast served till 10 a.m.

www.hostelz.com gives maps to, rates and ratings and pictures of them.

Its the only way this geezer will travel any more.

Back packs are very handy, with a waist band to balance and put the weight on your hips.

No wheels necissary. They drive you crazy on textured sidewalks. "drrrrrrrrrr"

I agree with pretty much everything Gawkabout said. I'm a mid/50's Canadian male currently in Berlin. I've just travelled through Poland, staring in Gdansk-Torun-Gniezno-Poznan over nine days staying in hostels, with the exception of Gniezno were I had a cheap hotel. Gniezno was almost like a private room as I was alone in a 4-bed dorm.....I use 'hostelworld' for my bookings and also the 'HI International' site......I found the reviews on hotelworld to be reasonably accurate. I would book my hostel bed a day or two before I arrived and that left me reasonably flexible.

I meet people at hostels....Example in Gdansk, the young Australian I went to dinner(perogies) with one night, the fellow Canadian that I went walking with and then had coffee.....Staying at hotels, the people you meet are at the hotel reception....It's in the hostels that you'll meet people.

The backpack?....If you get one, then put everything you want it and then weigh yourself. At a maximum for a woman my guess would be 10kg is the maximun, anything more will not be fun walking.....I did the Camino de Santiago(4 weeks) five years ago. My pack started at 13kg, it was too much. I left some clothes behind and got the weight down to 10kg; yet some of those clothes I liked.....Take less not more and buy on the road as you go.

I stay in dorms, only if the hostel has nothing else available. In Caseras, Extremadura, Spain, I had to stay in a dorm for six. Four daysthere. I only had to share it for one night. Two guys my age couldn't find a place to camp.

I've never been disappointed in any dorm I stayed in.

I'm 71 years old.
I've only stayed in four dorms, in all my travels.
If I want privacy, I may rent both beds, in a room for two.

I usually stay in hostels, because of the folks I meet.

Go island hoping through South East Asia.
No need for hostels over there.
For $15 a night you can have yourself a beaut bungalow on the beach.
You wont be lonely because there will be many other bungalows around you with like minded travellers ready to do a long lunch or two
