Last night I booked a flight to Bogota, being intoxicated.
Six weeks - more than I should.
What should I see, and where should I go?

Wow, that's brave isn't it? I may be totally wrong, but isn't Bogotá high on the list of dangerous places to visit? Murders and kidnapping's are favourite pastimes are they not.
Although I have also read that outside the capital the people are really nice and its a beautiful country?

It isn't that bad, I hope.
It'll be my first time to Colombia. I know the country has got too much of bad reputation, but it's more than it deserves.
Bogota, like all big cities in South America, has good and bad areas.
Like you say, it's a beautiful country, and the people are among the absolutely friendliest.
Colombia is safer than any country in South America outside of Chile.
Since you have time what about the supply boat from Buenaventura up to Bahia Solano, a gorgeous trip albeit quite slow.
Then there are river trips up through the Choco to Turbo & environs-a world apart.
The whole Caribbean coast from Turbo to Cartagena is untrafficked by anyone but locals, the Pacific coast of Choco as mentioned you'll have to yourself.

So much to see and do-fancy a jungle trek then head to Leticia http://www.borugo.com/indexeng.htm http://www.geocities.com/amazongreenforest/ , hiking in the mountains around Tayrona is popular -also think of heading to La Guaira http://wayuutaya.org/programs.htm

Sometimes we luck out and make great decisions when we are intoxicated and your decision to travel to Colombia was one of the best. The only fault in it is that it is not long enough and after 6 weeks you will not want to leave and wished you had booked longer.
Nancy and I have been twice, each time for 2.5 months and will return again to finish a journey we did not complete this year. And we have stayed mostly on the well travelled routes. We have not touched the areas that hardnosethehighway is talking about which sometime we will do.
An incredible place to travel in, beautiful. good infrastructure, good food, and above all wonderful and friendly people.
I have tons of specific information about various parts of Colombia and if you are interested PM and I will share with you. Also you can look at this site. It is a travel photo/blog that we did while travelling last winter.

I've heard nothing but raves from people who've visited or lived in Colombia. Most of the people I met came through Cartagena, which they loved. I'm considering it myself.
CTG is great/the food delicious/the weather stifling/the architecture in the old city charming and well preserved, the touts as bad as it gets and the beaches so/so.
Give it two days and you'll want to move on.

pick up a lonely planet south america book. you can pick what will interest you; not be influenced by one of us. nothing in the world i hate worse than coming home and learning about something i would have loved in the country i had just visited !
"...pick up a lonely planet south america book...."
LP Colombia is the worst POFS extant.
Streets/hotels/restaurants that never existed, completely inaccurate info on transportation options it seems to have been written over the phone from another country.
All the author seems to have done is visit old churches-he hates the country and treats the people like a bunch of dumb Indians.
