LOL, oh Meddler, don't try to write about what you know little about.

Why would anyone retire at 43. Answer, because I could.

My finances 20 years later are better than when I retired. Believe it or not. I have been able to move countries when I felt like it. Each move costs money. We are about to move yet again. This time to Ontario. My wife has now seen enough of the west and would like to see the East for a few years. Meeting bills is not an issue, my income exceeds my needs by a fair margin.

Most of central and western Canada aspires to retire in the Okanagan. Most can't afford to as real estate prices are among the highest in Canada. We bought a condo for the convenience of no maintenance and ease of travel. Lock the door and go.

Social levels. LOL There are condos and there are condos Meddler.

Financial planning, well perhaps you could post after you have been retired for 20 years and compare notes.

I have already been retired for over 13 years - 2/3 of the way to 20.

Tell us, if you will, Resurgam, about how much marrying a Scotch woman en route from 43 through 63 contributed to your financial "wisdom" and "success".

So that makes you 76+ Meddler? So tell me, has your net worth increased in those 13 years or do you find you are tending towards, 'pretty straightened financial circumstances' as you put it?

My Scots (or Scottish) wife (Scotch is a drink, not a people) has a decent pension. She retired at 53. But I think I understand the tree you are barking up Medldler. As usual it's the wrong one. It is my financial wisdom and success that allowed her to retire at 53.

Now if you have nothing to contribute to the topic of this thread I suggest you go and attempt to pry somewhere else. Go get a blue rinse or something.

I am a few weeks short of 76, and my net worth has increased considerably, through frugality mostly.

My contribution to this thread has been to explode your boasts by bringing to light that any financial security you may have achieved is one-half or more due to subsidization from your wife's income.

I love to unearth a carefully buried truth, and would personally shrink from demeaning that by calling it "prying".

I am going to trade my wife in on a scotish model and then I can do all that good stuff that regurgant has done!

And how much do you think you can charge to prove this intellectual gem? V20091 got it absolutely right; you treat your opinion like a religion. This forum is to you what a street corner is to a ranting madman claiming he spoke to God and we should all heed his advice.

Is there a difference between discussion and debate? Perhaps, but my point that you are unable to comprehend and are clearly unable to disprove is that you do not have all the answers described in a mathematical equation. Do people fail and go home or do some waste away at a bar? Certainly, but if you think others should blindly accept your version of truth without discussing, debating and defining the possible scenarios in order to understand the one most suitable for themselves is lunacy.

Everyone who's tried, has their own story.

That's why I'd like to hear other thoughts, ideas and experiences.

There was a civilized discussion going on until the "known answer" was dictated to everyone as absolute. I wish gypsytoes luck on the website and in retirement. Even if a happy and successful retirement in a second world country is statistically low, you are doing the right thing by asking questions and preparing. Your outcome is not predetermined by some equation but rather your responsibility.

Groupies are such a bore. A second post from someone hiding behind a second handle. How amusing. At least it amuses me, the other two are just pathetic.

Living off the wealth of a female is a time honoured profession, you were just dumb enough to own up. For a while there I thought this bloke is a bit clever. Now I think he is just like the rest of us!
