I am new to this forum and it has been a 'breath of fresh air'.
Now that I have retired I aim to do all the travelling that I never had time or opportunity to do before. Unlike most people who post here I have never done a long hawl flight and my only trips out of Europe have been North Africa and a trip across the Bospherus.
Last year I walked the Camino de Santiago, across northern Spain, which involves backpacking and staying in hostels so now I feel I am ready for anything, maybe! As an older woman, travelling alone, I feel a kind of diffidence about taking the leap, but I have PLANS!! The first trip will be Japan and China this spring, some hotels some hostels.
It has been marvellous to discover that there are so many 'not so young' who travel widely, especially that there are many other women travelling alone.

Hi,
Welcome to OT. It can be a mine of information, somehow I get the impression you will not need a lot of assistance - it appears you got things under control. I have always found this part of the forum to be helpful and have on occasions asked here for some guidance or whatever. Not once have I been left without an answer to the questions asked. Enjoy your travels.
Welcome to the branch! You will find plenty on here who can help - the world is now your oyster; go pluck it!

Welcome to this branch. I have been in China for 8 years now & while definitely not an expert :)) I seem to know a lot of things & a lot of useful people. Please feel free to contact me if I can be of any help to you. If U R coming my way.(Yangshuo)..& U definitely should, my home will be your home. But should U prefer it, the hostel 2min from my place is one of the very best. Welcome.

Welcome to this branch.
Sounds as if you are already a world traveler.
Of course, I'm sure you also tapping into the other extremely useful branches, i.e., Japan and China. However, "our" branch has much friendlier folks, and we know everything about everything. Just ask us!
Thanks for the replies.
Jeannieh,

Thank you very much, I've sent a PM but if you have concrete advice on best ways to spend time in the Li valley perhaps it is just as well here.
My last few days will be in Guilin, I was looking at it as a time to catch up with myself, do anything I might have forgotten (readjusting my timetable if necessary), and prepare for my flight back from Hong Kong. I still have time to change my mind so any ideas will be gratefully received.

Yes I too know you will love Japan. It's 5 times now for us , top to bottom, driving cars and using ferries, trains, busses, planes etc,
They are really respectful to older people there ( they have sooo many) and if you like food and are adventurous you will have a ball even in a convenience store, station , or dept. store ...
Try a few ryokans to stay in but also Toyoko Inns for the sheer affordable convenience of them.

A belated welcome to you. Happy travelling!
So happy to know that another mature aged female traveller on the road.
