Patagonia Photos

I went to Chile & Patagonia a few years ago. I'm sure you got your route pretty much set, but if you don't here is a couple of off the beaten path gems I found

1) is Los Arrayanes National Park in the lakes district in Argentina. features the red bark arrayanes trees

2) is the chilean island of Chiloe and it's capitol Castro. It's just a quick ferry ride from Puerto Montt. I did an overnight there because I had an extra day to fill. i wish I could given it a couple of more days. The town of Castro is famous for Palafitos, small houses on stilts at the waters edge.

I've also thought about moving to Nevada after I retire for tax reasons. But right now I'm happy here. Several years ago I traded my SF Bay Area equity in for a small house at the beach close to Pismo. I'm lucky now that I'm established here in Central Cal, it will be hard to move.

Raisuli...I'm comfortably settled in the best area in the USA as far as taxes go. I live in NE TN..no state income tax, property taxes are very reasonable, and low crime rate. We have generally been insulated from the economic problems that face many areas of the USA. That's one of the reasons that I would like to keep my homebase here and retire abroad or travel for 6 months to a warmer climate. Right now, it's snowing...
We've explored many areas throughout the world. Our favorite places are Brazil, Peru, Nicaragua, and Portugal. As far as costs to get to these places, Nicaragua is the cheapest and closest to home. That's a big consideration for us...in retirement, we'll be living on a fixed income.
We've taken two early retirements so far. Once when we were in our 20's..we travelled around the perimeter of the USA for a year camping in all of the free National Forests. Four years ago, we pretired in Nicaragua, Ometepe Island. Both experiments in living the retired life were wonderful...but I honestly don't think I have the energy to live the nomadic lifestyle or the primitive lifestyle, as on Ometepe Island.
The snowflakes are getting bigger now....I just booked a trip to Puerto Rico. I won't be able to do that much longer (retirement is quickly approaching). I'm not sure what direction to take...but my passion will always be travelling. I just want to escape the cold, snowy weather.

Gypsytoes, where is NE TN?

BTW, the sun is shing here in Victoria, BC, and I'm about to head down to the oceanfront to see if there are any good birds there. Stayed in my neighbourhood yesterday, and saw over 40 species!

Sometimes it is hard to tear myself away from here, but when those gray days sock in................

Raisuli: Wow...Pismo is really beautiful. Excellent location! We visit Paso Robles at least one time a year for a wine trip. Fun stuff...

Thanks for the recommendations. We will be in Puerto Montt for sure. I have read about Chiloe and it does get good reviews. I will see if we can fit it in. No fixed schedule except for a cruise from Punta Arenas to Ushuaia. Great pics also!

Gypsytoes: We went to Granada on a visa run from CR a few years ago. Loved it so much we stayed about 9 days! Due to that, we missed out trip to Ometepe. Bummer! Hope we can make it back next time...

lotus...Northeast Tennessee...a lovely area near the Great Smokey Mountains...a haven for retirees...close to Asheville, NC.
Craig...you missed Ometepe? You HAVE to return. We've been thinking of living there again for the winters. It is a must see for Nicaragua and a beautiful, safe haven from most of the modern world.
It's snowing again!!!! I think we'll have a snow day tomorrow. I'm wishing I were on Ometepe now. :-)

Hi
We were wondering if anyonce has managed to live in Canada on only their CPP payments about $500 per month.
Thinking of snowbirding 6 months in Canada and 6months in India. We are Canadian citizens
