From Sydney to Cairo via BKK.
Been into flight centre this morning (after much internet research) and am now tossing up between flying Royal Jordanian via Bangkok and Amman and Qatar via Bangkok and Doho.
RJ is $1900AUD inclusive of taxes
Q is $1800AUD inclusive of taxes
Both will allow me a 2 week stopover in BKK. I don't think I'd bother with a stop in Doho but Amman may be interesting.
Want to book by Monday. Does anyone have any knowledge of what these airlines are like and also is it advisable to travel independantly (solo female) in Jordan for a few days or should I do a tour?
Thanks. Any feedback would be very much appreciated.

From memory the last terrorist incident in Jordan was over 12 months ago a shooting in amman at a tourist site. Generally speaking arabic people are very respectful of females. This also depends on how you dress etc. I am not suggesting a burka(s) but moderation goes a long way. I went to Jordan years ago but missed out on petra and have always wanted to go back. It is possible I think to hire a taxi and bypass the tour bit but that information maybe a tad old. Have flown royal jordanian and I thought they were fine. Hope this helps a bit and importantly post the trip notes so we can all enjoy.(please)
If you stop in Amman would you have time to do a side trip to Petra - that would be worth seeing.
I traveled solo in Jordan (older female) for three weeks back in '99. I used a taxi and driver quite a bit to get around. No problems then.

Was in Jordan in March this year for about 8 days as a solo female - loved Petra, the Dead Sea and Madaba area. Rather easy-going place to travel - the history is incredible and it's a lot easier than Egypt in my book.
One idea is an open-jaw ticket - if it doesn't cost any more- into Amman and then travel overland to Cairo yourself, so an openjaw out of Cairo. That way you are not backtracking to Amman from Petra and have the "joy"( or a mini adventure) of the ferry to Nuweiba on the Sinai Peninsula. Depends on where you want to be in Egypt I guess.
Thanks everyone. My reason for leaning toward Royal Jordanian is specifically because I think a week stopover there would be a bonus, whereas doha (the stopover on Qatar), I know nothing about. The RJ fare is only about $100 more than Qatar.
Baz Faz. Can you give me your reason why you prefer Qatar than RJ? Thanks.
Blue, I'll have a look at that option. Thanks.
Petra is definitely on my To Do list! You shouldnt have any problem as a female in Jordan - I havent made it there but have been to Syria and that was a lot less hassle than Turkey or Israel. Don't wear shorts or singlet tops, in restaurants look for the "family" section which is where you should be shown too anyway! If you follow this link you will (linkfind resources on comparing airlinescheck out Seatguru in the resources box - look for things like seat pitch and width to get an idea on comfort.

If you go to This airline quality site you can check on any airport or the quality of any airline in the world.
I find it a fascinating tool.
Check current flyers views of their flight, seat comfort, attendant service, meals and in flight entertainment systems.
They often stipulate whether they have flown business, first or economy. All entries are dated too. Good luck
