Some of you may remember that a couple of years ago I posted about my (potential) publisher stealing poems I'd given him to publish. I was pretty mad about it at the time. However, his interest did get me going back over some of my older writings, and writing more. Also visiting a poetry site he uses, on a regular basis, just to ensure he doesn't try it on again.

While I was away I saw a notification on the site about the Arvon International Poetry Prize, and decided to enter, as Andrew Motion was the first winner. I wanted to see if my poems actually came up to scratch when judged against top class published poets.
And I've made it onto the shortlist (of 33)!!! Yippee! Prize winners to be announced at the awards evening on 4 November. Of course, I'm going - wild horses wouldn't keep me away. :>))

Ah - I'm right up there amongst the big guns, so not expecting it to be me.
If I'm very, very lucky I might get an 'honourable mention' though...

I am holding my fingers crossed for you.
Wear something nice and make it a special evening out.
Having your work being noticed among so many others is already a great victory.

Hi,

G
Good for you lady. Hope you win - for yourself and also to show that thieving git he got it all wrong. Made my day. Off to Nepal for 5 weeks, and this is a good start.

Awww - thanks folks. As I said, I don't know that I'll actually WIN. It's just rather a nice thing to celebrate.

Anamore, don't keep your fingers crossed for too long; they've already chosen the winner(s) but we won't know the result until the night - which I intend to thoroughly enjoy.

Brax - have a great time in Nepal. Do you live in London? If so, do you know Rorygemwriter?
I think you two would get along like a house on fire.
