LOL Ozzie, I'm hoping to take you up on your offer one day! The loo sounds a heck of a lot better than the E. Kwaio slippery, mossy thin round log over a deep chasm. Nearly took a header...
Watsoff, I had to get someone to hold my hand to get across the log to the overwater one on (or beside) Sulufou. I never did have a sense of balance. I understand now there is at least one "real" one there, which belongs to a member of my family.
I'm "only" forty, so perhaps I'm not the best person to be answering this, but I find that as I have gotten older, I am more inclined to be adventurous. I have my limits - I have had to accept that I will never hike the Inca trail or the Mt. Everest Base Camp trail because of my bad knees - but river rafting, paragliding and diving are all on my To Do list for when I next visit a place that offers any of these things.
Got a photo by email yesterday - Wanderinwilco on the back of a very beautiful camel. He looked like he was enjoying it. :>))
I'm 48 now, and find myself more free than ever with ready cash to indulge my adventures. Divorced with grown-up, independent kids and (fingers crossed) fit, healthy and active. There are many on this site who will say, save your money, build up that pension, invest in bricks and mortar, leave something for the kids to inherit etc . . . . I say: Live now, there's one life (just one), put everything into it and get everything out of it while you're fit enough and mentally capable of appreciating it.

I think your young in comparison to some of my friends. One lady I know is 82 and she joins us on our ski trips and she can ski most runs.. One fella is 80 and he skis downhill as well and is not afraid of some of the black runs. He bikes as well and is in our top black group. I did a 8 hour hiking trip with one fellow who told me he was nearing 80. For the first two hours of this hike we were constantly climbing uphill before we did any level walking. All these people impress me and I find it hard to believe, but they have been doing these things for a long time. I play badminton against people who are in their late 70's and they amaze me. Some run around as if they were still in their teens.
Oh if you want the attention of young people, do what they do but do it better.

I think if you are inclined to label yourself young at heart maybe you are simply not quite that young?
I am hit 57 in a matter of days, but I am still very much what I have been since about 25, with friends older and many younger than me. It is simply a matter of attitude.
Last year I was too busy with a new career to travel, the year before I was in Syria. This year, hopefully Cnada, and I have couchsurfers staying sometimes.
So age-meh
I think there is a difference between phsical and mental adventure. I have never had the physical attributes to do the ski-ing, biking, or even much hiking, due to anatomy that I was born with. That does not stop me from going to some pretty out-of-the-way places (such as the outer islands of the Solomons), provided I can get there by boat, train, plane etc.

I usually go diving ir hiking or climbing on every trip at 67. I had planned to go to Sulawesi, Indon. diving in Feb., but contracted the worst cold I ever had before leaving. I had to wheeze my way around Java, Lombok and Bali doing things I have already done and none of it exciting. I was idsappointed, but it was better than being home in February. Cycling is my religion and I do admire your trips. I just did Ireland last summer and loved it. I had planned on France or Italy this summer, but now am facing Chemotherapy and cannot imagine what condition I will be in during the summer. I only regret that I did not have the time to start cycling trips abroad at an earlier age. I contemplate on a daily basis what sort of trip can be adventurous at my age.
I knew the answer to this, which was a definite 'yes', until a few weeks ago when a legal/business problem was finally resolved and a surgeon told me that I was fit and I definitely had a seroma not a recurrance of a hernia. Now I am suddenly free and very confused. I have started exercising to get fit and that will be helpful whether I travel or not also I am learning French specifically for Madagascar and Reunion. I would like to hike and trek in the wild and there seems to be no reason why not if I can get fit enough. 67th birthday due towards the end of April.
