In Brazil at present with the idea of getting some dentistry work done.
However the booming economy here has pushed the prices up since my last visit in 2009.
4 implants all up about $4000 is probably not a lot less than back home in OZ where dental costs are ridiculous.
Probably because they can.

thanks for the tips, but in the end, i have been lucky enough to be given a cash gift that will enable me to have it done at home. Of course i am tempted to use the money for travel AND dental work, but to be honest, it does make sense to have it done here in case there is a problem.

We have friends who winter every year in Paa Muul on the Yucatan Peninsula of Mexico ...which of course is on the Caribbean :) We had a wonderful time out there this past winter. They speak very highly of the dental work they get done there so I am thinking of doing something like this myself as I have several non-pressing at the moment, but will-become-so in a few years crowns and root canals to get done.

well, canajun, you will have to stop off on the way back and show us your new and improved smile. Although in my opinion, that's hard to do..

My husband had some bridgework done in Cuba - dentist back here in Canada said it was very well done (and about one tenth the cost)
Colleague had wisdom teeth out and implants done in Bangkok (then recuperated on a beach) and said they were absolutely brilliant. I don't know, I'd be really worried in case something went wrong.

Hi, I've been considering dentistry abroad for some time now. I have recently been to Hungary to meet some dentists and was very impressed. Check out www.dentimplants.co.uk for more details.

Cuba might be the right place, the medical system there is really good even if the equipment is old.
Just had a crown done in Bangkok, cost 10,000 baht (a little more than US$300). No root canal this time which, roughly, would have doubled the price.
This is my third (or fourth?) crown out here, they all have gone well. So have the several root canals. Fillings are much cheaper of course, but in my experience they fall out -- this may be due to the holes in my teeth being so big. Usually if you go back to the same dentist (not just the office!) within a reasonable period they'll take care of it no extra charge.

I had work done in Ethiopia (Gojeb Dental in Addis Ababa) and in Angeles City in the Philippines. Both places were less than half the price of American dentists and good work in clean modern offices. In Angeles the equipment was better than the equipment in my United States office. The place in the Philippines is SmileMakeOver Dental <info@smilemakeoverdental.net>. I called from California before I left to the the clinic in Ethiopia to make sure I had an appointment the day after I arrived in Addis. You can get Gojeb's info off the internet in several places; here's a phone number to try 251-11-156 65 21 .
Basically, when I need dental work done, the amount I save helps me pay for my trips. I also have gone to doctors and optometrists in those two places, saving more. (And if I figured in the amount I saved in both those places by getting an 80 dollar hour massage every day for seven dollars: that would pay for the trip itself, lol.)
If you need to get work done like root canals and crowns, you need to allow some time on your trip for the dentist to accomplish those things. You could talk with both these places in advance and get information on how long you should plan to get your treatment done.
can anyone give me a referral to someone in Tijuana?
