never thought I would be doing this, but with a crown replacement costing about $1200.00, that eats up the $1200 i had put aside for travelling this year, I am considering it. Lotusland2 has given me some suggestions in Oaxaca, and that would do the trick. But my heart is set on the Caribbean again. I emailed several clinics in Barbados for an estimate, and it ranged from what |I would pay here (from 2 of them) to $750.... this I can't figure, unless the higher costs are because they think I am rich. HAH. The only way I am getting anywhere is on my air miles. Yes, I know it is cheaper in SEA and India, but i don't want to go there... I like my Caribbean beaches. Any suggestions?

In Quepos CR, I got it done for half my deductible. Dr. gave me a perfect tico partibg remark. haa haa,
"Its a slightly different color from the rest of your teeth. But no problem. When you get the rest replaced, it'll fit right in."

In Europe, Hungary has a reputation for dentistry at bargain prices - depends how far your air miles stretch.

Would your air miles take you to Turkey (and some of the Aegean regions)? PM me for a personal recommedation from a dentist who did a fabulous job on crowns/caps for me if you are interested.

China has very inexpensive options; my friend from China got a whole mouthful of caps for 600$!

And when something goes wrong and you need to get the work fixed/replaced/tweaked/refitted do you go back to your local expensive dentist or travel to your cheaper one? I'm a pessimist.

thanks for the suggestions... but i think i have a solution that means i get to have my cake and eat it too... I have enough airmiles to get to San Diego, and a friend has highly recommended a dentist in Tijuana who did four crowns for her. I emailed for a quote. I have cousins down there, and i have asked if i can free load for a week. AND the best part, is that i have enough airmiles left to go to the caribbean as well, if i want to - or i can save them for another dental trip down, if i have to. .

India has some great beaches in the Goa area but that's another story. Two years ago I went over the border in Mexico and got my teeth cleaned for $20. Here in Canada they often want about $150. Dental prices in Canada are criminal. This winter we are going to spend 4 months in the Yucatan. You can bet your booths that both my wife and I will have all our dental work done there. By the way, when we stayed in the Rio Grande Valley, hundreds of Americans were going over across the border and getting their dental work done. I heard only positive stories so don't let the cowards scare you. Most of the dentists have been trained in the "good" ole USA.

With the rising cost pressures on national health systems worldwide, I wonder how
long it will be before someone dreams up the idea that there could be cost savings
realized by combing procedures. Say for example, sedation dentistry and a colonoscopy.
