Cuddling with elephant seals in South Georgia

I went to south georgia on a cruise to antarctica last year. It is a great majestic place. i saw elephant seals there but what an experience! I think it is great! Sorry have no idea what the music is, something in spanish at the end.

Enjoyed this delightful film. Reminded me of our time on Macquarie Island, where a young elephant seal behaved the same way with one of our crew.

Is that safe to do or is it like tourists cuddling kangaroos - ok most of the time, but not always?

Apparently it isn't always safe. Nor is it recommended as I have received feedback from a few people saying humans should leave wild animals be, for the good of both.
