Oh wow! I just read about how couchsurfing has gradually become sexsurfing for some couch surfers and hosts.

Although, I have registered as a member way back in 2010, I haven't personally host or have had the opportunity to become a couch surfer. In 2010, I did try contacting a few members in a couple of Asian cities but because I am of Asian appearance, these people did not bother to reply and I sort of gave up on the idea.

Have offered accommodation to a couple of mature aged couch surfers but after letting them know of my whereabout, I did not hear from them so, that was that. I refused to host a couple of couch surfers because one asked to stay for a week and the other group was for a family of four. I felt quite overwhelmed by that many people. :)

Now, after hearing this and many other stories, I am beginning to question the wisdom of couch surfing.

Hi,

Ok only done it twice and both times were ok. First time I took every one out for a meal and it cost more than a room, but who cares? Second time there was another couch surfer present so 3 strangers and we all went out together. Maybe got lucky.

I have hosted tons of couchsurfers and have really had fun with them. I have never heard anyone speak of sexsurfing.. Haven't had any offers, anyway. ;-)

I live in a touristy place, and the summer requests have started to come in. I am careful who i invite, checking out their profiles, and tend towards inviting other traveller types. Just had a lovely couple of tattooed - pierced Aussies who are in canada on a two year work permit. They have lived and worked in a number of countries, and plan on opening a coffe shop when they return. (he's a cheff). I have specified in my profile that guests are good for 'up to three days'. I ask them to have their own sleeping bags, because i hate doing laundry... bad enough i have to do my own. If i do provide sheets and stuff, they have to make and strip the bed, and throw everything in the laundry before they go.

That is discrimination. So unfair. Just because we are older travellers / couchsurfers host doesn't mean we have lost our sex appeal. lol

What is interesting is that I have found a sub group or sub groups called over 50+ travellers.

Sad thing is that, it is no longer non-profit. Like most well thought out social media sites, the almighty $$ rule. :(

I wouldn't mind doing it (like Canay for a maximum of 3 nights) but only when I manage to build my second bathroom!
Definitely don't want the side benefits, though (unless he looked like George Clooney, perhaps).

Ask me about the Island Builders of the Pacific.

George Clooney! Nah, he is too suave.

I prefer Guy Pearce, myself, especially as he bulked up in Lockout.

I am in love! lol

I actually use couchsurfing (not sexsurfing) with great success - and most recently in Bangladesh.

No offers to me either - too bad, but maybe because I could have been their mother :-).
