I have already posted this on the Canada site, but I have a feeling that this forum could very well have the information I need.

We are seriously thinking of booking a ten day trip , starting September 30th, this year, financially far removed from our earlier backpacking trips, but hey - how much healthy time do we have left, I think it's time to start spending our children's inheritance!!

Has anybody done this trip?

We live as far west as you can get, Vancouver Island, B.C., and Newfoundland has been on my list forever.
It would make sense to spend a few days in St. John's itself - can't wait to join in with the singing in the pubs. Any recommendations for reasonable accommodation?

We went as a family to Newfoundland a few years back and had an absolutely wonderful time. We did it in August and camped our way around the province so I can't recommend any place to stay in St. John's. A fantastic province to visit and quite different from BC (we live in Vancouver). Have a great holiday. I'd definitely go back again.

After traveling around the world for over 4 decades, Newfoundland is our next destination. Sure would love to hear any ideas from senior travelers. Thanks. Thank goodness its in Canada and so far has escaped "massive tourists" such as many great spots on this planet.

Google for 'Bonavista Peninsula'.

Located on east coast and accessed from the Trans Canada near town of Clarenville, about 90minutes west of town (St John's). Beautiful spot in summer, i.e. whale watching, etc. Maybe cool by late September though.

Thanks for the response sofar. I should have mentioned that this is on the Clipper Adventurer, an 118 passenger expedition vessel. www.adventurecanada.com look for circumnavigation Newfoundland/Labrador. Starting off at St. John's making 10 stops including Miquelon, France.
We get to shore by zodiac. "soft" adventure.

Hi Margaret:
I'll be interested to hear your thoughts after this trip. It's on my "wish list". This year have decided to take the same company's trip "Out of the Northwest Passage" on the Clipper in September.
