On to Dawson Creek and the start of mile 0 on the Alcan Highway. Looked like it was a public holiday so I parked outside an eye doctor clinic longways and took up a few car parks found an internet at the rear of an electronics shop and sent of some emails, came back to the RV to be abused by shop owner for my parking, claimed i had cost him business! Continued on up the highway long stretches of forest that we would come to dislike found a great stop for a coffee break but the smell of the dead moose was a bit overpowering. Camped at the Sikani River RV park which was a great location on the river. Won the raffle and got a free nights RV! Guys next door played the guitar and one of them had a voice that was Johnny Cash. A great nights entertainment.

Stocked up on some groceries at Fort Nelson, next stop was the Number 1 Cinnamon Shop in Canada at Telsa River, Great shop and yes they were right interesting locals in the shop/coffee house. Drove off 30 k's and realised we had left camera in the shop returned and got it back. My fault of course ( and I think it was)

Still raining at this stage but countryside was changing so magnificient.Next stop Toad River RV park, Backed the van onto a lake and proceded to watch 5 moose eating and doing moose things in the lake. Also a resident beaver that did beaver things. We spent hours watching the wildlife in the rain. When it did stop raining the mossies came and had a feed so i much preferred the rain.

Great wildlife spotting in this area with black bear and cubs, moose in good supply. We stopped off at Ranchieria Falls which was a great spot good walking paths still raining and about 6 degrees. Still in the shorts but starting to waiver just a bit.

Watson Lake was the overnight spot with its 7 thousand signs from all over the world. It was a great walk around once again the rain was 'heavy'. The scenery is great along this section of road heading to Whitehorse. Stayed at the 'good sam' on the highway at Whitehorse, excellent ammenities. Caught up with the rental agent for cruise america who was extremely helpful , bald tyres replaced and sillicon around the top of the RV to stop the leaks.

Whitehorse was great with a coffee shop called 'Baked' great drinks. We did a jet boat cruise on the Yukon and saw some great wildlife, We shared the boat with another couple, him i felt sorry for as she was the witch from hell, botox look at 70 is still not a great look and when she said ' What this boat goes fast' i knew she was not going to be much fun. Way to many witnesses to put us out of our suffering.

The highlight was watching the start of an endurance paddle race from Whitehorse to Dawson City via the Yukon 700 odd k's. All manners of paddlers and lots of voyager boats with women teams some having recovered from cancer so it was all amazing stuff.

We were both in Whitehorse at the same time, as our daughter was one of the contestants (women tandem canoe) in the Yukon River Quest. We saw them off in Whitehorse, went down to Tahini River Bridge to yell encourangement, then 2 days later went to Dawson City where we were the support crew for them when they arrived, tired but jubilant.

We were there last year as well when the race started, and found the whole race very interesting. It isn't often that you can talk to participants, see all their equipment etc, and then see the exciting start. Never dreampt that our daughter would be in it the following year. She came 2nd in their category, and was very pleased with her results, as it was the first time in the race for both of them.

I think Whitehorse is a treasure. Great tourist info available, and lots of things to do, good art available at a reasonable price, and magnificent scenery (if you like trees and mountains and water that is...)
