It's my dream also. I did a bunch of RVing all over N. American and Mexico. I've traveled to every country in C. America, but not the best area for camping or RVing.

So....Europe is at the top of my list with Australia/New Zealand just behind. We're in a house now, so enjoying that for the next few years...then we will get back to it and probably rent out our house. I'm also looking into renting an apartment in, say, France and then buying a car to do week+ trips.

I'm also debating between pulling a trailer vs. a small RV. I would get a smaller RV, as I do love the amenities the RV offers!

A few thoughts from an experienced van-, then RV driver: I go with craigt3365: Consider an RV rather than a van if you plan doing longer journeys. Most (not all) European RVs have beds that are 2 meters long. That should just roughly do if your partner is 6 ft. 4 (which is 1.95 m). Also consider all the amenities an RV has, e.g. separate shower and toilet. If you compare prices, you'll soon notice that an RV is cheaper than a van

Last but very serious advice: Buy a left hand driven vehicle as these are easier to sell in case you don't like your future life on wheels - most vehicles sold in the UK are driven on the continent anyway. And you know, we drive on the "wrong" side :-)

Just cut holes in the roof of your choice of van or buy kneepads:-)

Surgery might work too, plastic surgeons are always removing unwanted inches these days
