My SO and I were planning to sit down this weekend and book our flights and hotels etc for most of our trip, when he started passing blood in his urine. He had been complaining about a mass he felt in his abdomen and pain in lower back.

We have gone for work up (and damn right I was there!). But this is not too moan too much about the worry of this all....if it is serious and we do cancel our plans, I'm thinking maybe some short regional (within a few hours) to give us a break.

I'm sure given this is the OT branch some of you may have faced this, how did you all handle your travel with someone with health issues?

Hopefully, it's nothing too serious and can be sorted before you travel. Good luck.

Due to health issues, my husband and I have had to give up some of our independence and take small-group tours abroad. We need the staff backup, we need the logistics taken care of so that we can enjoy the meat of the experience. It's a difficult compromise, but beats the rocking chair!

Right now, for the summer at least, I'm the only driver, so we're hoping to do some daytrips within a 100 mile radius of home. Getting packed and in and out of hotels won't be feasible for a while.

This is a great subject for a thread! I'll keep track.

Sorry to read your news, and I hope it resolves easily and well. Another reminder, among the others, that we should take advantage of all our healthy days. All the best...

Go-2's links illustrate some of the problem with using the internet for health information. The first link doesn't include at least one very significant problem (kidney cancer) and there is no accounting for the mass.

Sure, use the internet, but let the buyer beware.

bun_cha, please use your head!

Or, as a post in my father's office used to say - THIMK!

(I'd put more in a PM, but they don't exist any more - shame...)

Sorry to hear about your spouse's health issues. Hope it is nothing serious.

This is why I decided to quit my job and start travelling, whilst I physically can. :)

Best of luck.

The decision regarding whether you should travel and where you go, should be done in consultation with your physician.

If a significant O/S trip you should consider the ramifications of Travel Insurance and that very interesting component - pre-existing medical conditions.

Hope all goes well.

Wishing you both well and can't answer your question as I have always travelled on my own.

Still waiting for results, but we are ignoring the elephant in the room. As long as his discomfort is not impeding him...Kalki, we both have very comprehensive bens but def will need to check out the fine print should bad news come back. Generally we like to get off the beaten path, but your point taken we should be talking the physician about this if needed. (Thanks for all the good wishes all!)

psw, if not a good outcome, I'm trying to view it as an opportunity to explore our back yard...it may not be as exotic or unusual as our past choices, but we will still experiencing new things!

will keep you posted....and again thank you very sincerely for your good wishes and interest.
