I would like to visit a wildlife/safari park or animal rehab (because of my vision, this idea might work better) in East or South Africa; would like to combine it with a visit to India (the Taj and a houseboat either in Kerala or Kashmir). Any idea how to set up my flights to include both? I could do round the world or link two round trips (NY-Jo'burg -NY and within that time period, fly to India and back from Jo'burg or Capetown.

Many years ago I went on a safari in Kenya and also went to India on the same trip. I did a Los Angeles to London to Los Angeles round trip, a London to Nairobi to London round trip, and a London to Delhi to London round trip. In other words, I used London as the HUB.
Those were the days when real cheap fares were available from London bucket shops. The London-Kenya-London flights were booked as part of the safari. I booked the London-Delhi-London flights as an independent traveler.
I don't know if a RTW or other combination of flights would be cheaper now.
I think Steve has the best idea, but it could be expanded to any city in Europe that is a major carriers home base. In other words, you could price out NYC to AMS on Delta and then use KLM as your airline of choice or look at using United / Lufthansa through Frankfurt and so forth. Dubai might also be a good hub.
Good luck.

well come india
you could fly to delhi and take car to see tajmahal and come back delhi and fly srinagar kashmir

ofcourse safe thre is has been improvement in stuvation and million tourits visted valley ,germeny has revised travel advisery,so in new germeny travel advisery you can travel by plane to srinagar and adjoing places

The info in # 5 re the German travel advisory is badly misleading , and the poster is aware of it. See this thread for the full text from the German FO.

there is no problem and i am not mis guiding you are doing the job

"...in new germeny travel advisery you can travel by plane to srinagar and adjoing places"
Actual wording in the German advisory re the " adjoining areas" etc , : transaltion checked with a German, link to the FO original document supplied in the earlier thread ( and yes , it´s unchanged today) :
"Due to the risk of terrorist attacks and unpredictable confrontations between protesters , army and police it is advised not to travel in rural areas of Kashmir , esp. in Sopore and Baramullah district."
"Travel to Srinagar should be done by air."
"Security situation information should be updated immediately before travel ."
Agreeing with this description or not is beside the point , this the evaluation from FO´s in the EU , US etc and it still decides whether travel insurannce is valid , for one thing.
Two years ago I looked into doing an RTW, and after playing around with planning software, dreaming up routes and calculating prices, I decided it would probably be more cost-efficient, and would be able to get more of the destinations I was interested in, if I just did the planning and bought my own individual tickets.
I would think there are any number of trans-Indian Ocean flights connecting the subcontinent to Africa.
Maybe you should come up with plan ideas and then try to see which routes are feasible. Airlines want to see an onward ticket, it does not have to be a round-trip.
