I just received an email "According to our records, the miles in your account will expire on October 30, 2008 unless you make at least one qualifying transaction prior to this date." So, I used the Aeroplan card when I filled up at Esso!

Any comments re: "Aeroplan’s seven year mileage redemption policy

Aeroplan Miles must be redeemed within 7 years of the date of accumulation. This doesn't mean you must empty your account every seven years. Think of a mile as having a "shelf life." You must therefore redeem each mile accumulated by the end of its "shelf life" of seven years, otherwise it will be removed from your account. Miles older than 7 years will begin to be removed from active accounts at the end of 2013, so you have the time to plan and redeem for your favorite reward or dream vacation."

I've never had a problem using up Aeroplan miles. Right now, we're trying to save our miles for a trip to Vietnam in December 2009 I know I'll need to book it as soon as the flights open up, so I'm trying to accumulate enough in the next few months!

The problem arises if you don't use the airline for awhile and you might lose the points. As a matter of fact, I have taken several flights using Airmiles for Westjet flights which is why I haven't been using Air Canada. (It's those grandkids in Winnipeg that have me doing the in-country flights!)

I hadn't realized til a friend told me that just adding to your Aeroplan points with anything other than an air ticket (check the Aeroplan site) would keep you from losing the existing points. So, I was just "sharing" the info!!

I prefer Westjet as well - I was flying to Montreal every week on business, and always booked Westjet if I could. Also trips to Abbotsford (to visit my father in Chillwack) - Westjet is great. I've done that trip a couple of times using Airmiles.
