I have been planning this trip to south america for about a year now. I have dreamed of going to Easter Island, the Galapagos and many other places for many many years. Well on Sunday morning I was all set to take off on Jetstar flight to Sydney where I would overnight and catch Qantas to South America (Buenos Aires). I checked in on the internet the day before and had an early night, my flight was at 8 am and I needed to be at the airport about 7. I use a CPAP machine and put my mask on to have a good night's sleep. About 3.30 am I woke and decided to make a cup of coffee. I got up and thought my vision was a bit blurry, maybe sleep. I donned my glasses they didn't help much. A quick test soon revealed a film completely over my left eye, I could see barely nothing! I called the docotr but being a Sunday I ended up att the emergency department of our country town hospital. I was finally seen just befre my flight was to take off and told I had multiple abrasioins on my left cornea. I would have to see a specialist on Monday morning. I did. It has started to mend but is still sore. The only explanation, my CPAP mask leaked in the night and the pressurised air blasted my eye. And I thought we slept with our eye's closed.
I have now rebooked for next Friday with hours on the phone to we value your partienece insurance and airlines and still not being able to see properly. Plus emails to buenos aires and iguassu to change and cancel hotel bookings. To add to my problems in the middle of it all my town of hervey bay was in the direct path of severe category 5 cyclone Hamish. They even started to evacuate people in low lying ares due to storm surge with the king tides of the full moon. It is still sitting off the coast here but has downgraded a bit. I only hope by Friday planes can land and my eye has improved. My trip to Iguassu will now have to be at the end of the trip as I can now not fit it in at the beginning. The extra cost is now up to about $400 and I have had $200 in medical expenses which is not refundable as I am still in Australia. The insurance should pay for most of the cancellation. So I do hope I will now leave on my trip of a lifetime. Got to get off the computer as the glare is hurting my eye. Love to hear from someone out there.

I have just spent a week on Rapa Nui. I will try to post a report here, sometime over the next few days. Hopefully, your health issues will clear quickly so you get to enjoy the ´Moai´ as much as I did.

How awful!! You must get better, and fast. Good luck; healing vibes on their way.

Looking forward to reports from Rapa Nui in particular; I was planning on going there this year but can't (health problems still).

Well, the "trip" is not a nightmare yet Cathy! Very bad luck on the eye but hopefully it will be okay and you can take off and all goes well from thereonout.

Well folks I am now in Sydney airport waiting for my flight to Buenos Aires. Thanks for all your good wishes. My eye is still sore but sight has improved a great deal so I am going. Trying not to use the computer too much at the moment so I will keep it short right now.
