Do any of you have a bucket list - i.e. a list of things you'd like to do before you kick the bucket?

I've started to think about mine - so far I've come up with:

A tandem sky-dive
An Opening Ceremony of an Olympic Games
Niagara Falls
See New Years Eve fireworks over Sydney Harbour
Taj Mahal

That's as far as I've got - what would be on your list?

Niagara Falls! I always remember a friend of mine who came to visit Canada and before arriving, sent me his planned itinerary. It includes 3 days in Niagara Falls. I asked him how long he could happily stand and watch water fall of a rock. LOL

An interesting list would be well known tourist sights that actually only need a half day or less. Places that people actually go to for that one specific thing. ie. not Eiffel Tower as that is only one of the things people visit Paris for, they don't make a special trip for the tower alone.

Ayers Rock
Taj Mahal
Leaning tower of Pisa
Niagara Falls
Grand Canyon (average time the average tourist spends on an actual visit to the rim is something like 10 minutes.)

can assume you have been to all of the above??? or is it just a list... seems a bit 'ordinary' for someone as well travelled as you!

Great question - let me think about it and I'll get back to you! Spent 2 days at Niagara - most of the time in the town itself (a little distance from the Falls?) and enjoyed it.

But things are only "ordinary", Canayjun, if you can say 'been there, done that'. I've been to places here in Australia, which to me are everyday, ordinary places, but someone from overseas would consider extraordinarily exotic.

No doubt millions of people consider Niagara a pretty ordinary waterfall, but it's something I have always wanted to see since I was a child and saw Marilyn Monroe in that movie. Once I've seen it, it will probably be well down my list of extraordinary things, but until then.....

sorry libbyh... i should have been clearer... wasn't referring to you, was referring to wayworn...

Sure Canayjun, but it still applies - his list is only 'ordinary' because those places are well known, they are each still extraordinary in their own right.

There is lots to see and do in the Niagara area I'd go back if time permits. I haven't thought about a bucket list but a few quick ideas would be:

A couple months in the Queen Charlotte's Islands. If you can find "Ravens and Eagles" on your TV or an aboriginal station it is very spiritual.
Northern Lights (anywhere).
A cruise with naturetrek.ca or a shorter trip on the MV Lady Rose out of Port Alberni on the west coast of Vancouver Island.
Hike the west coast trail (Vancouver Island again) or Cape Scott (northern tip of Vanc Isl) and/or Botanical Beach near Port Renfrew at the start of the southern end of the west coast trail.
On the East Coast I'd definitely like to see New Brunswick, the Bay of Fundy, Northumbrian Strait, PEI, Nova Scotia (especially the Citadel) and Cape Breton.
Palenque and Chitzen Itza.
Terry Fox statue, near Thunder Bay (marking the end of his run)
The beaches of Normandy, France (on a June 6th) (it's a guy thing).
Stonehenge
Prague
Sedona, Arizona
Santa Fe, New Mexico

I'm going to give it some more thought and no doubt my wife will change my priorities somewhat (for the better) but we will soon fulfill a wish to travel to SEAsia.

Have fun with the list.

Oh yes, now there's another one - Villers-Bretonneaux in France for Anzac Day (an uncle died there).

This was my response when the question was asked on WT. It hasn't changed.

I've been lucky and have ticked off a lot of mine already.

Still left - visit Antarctica. Won't make it in the next 2 years, aiming for 5, if not its my retirement trip.
Iguazzu falls - see above.
See polar bears.
and puffins.
and cheetah, rhino and at least one more leopard - hope to tick this one off next year.
go whale watching.

Victoria Falls really does leave Niagara for dead. I believe Iguazzu is even better.
