I am looking for suitable maps that could help us explore Sanaa's old town and find its main attractions quickly.
We had the option of a driver, but we are looking for more independent exploration. I just think that going on a car from one place to the other, you miss on immerging on the daily life of the Yemenis.....
Also, how far is the Rock Palace from Old Town Sanaa?
I've also read of going to the Taj hotel for amazing views of Old Town Sanaa...What's the latest that we could go up to the…

My three friends and I are looking to travel to Jordan via private taxi from Damascus on a Saturday night in May.
We are planning to leave for Jordan at around 9PM (+/-) since I think it's a 3 1/2 hour drive, depending on the time taken at the border to cross over. What would be the best bus station to grab a taxi and would we have any problems finding taxis at that time of the night?

If anyone has recommendations and contact information of trusted drivers in Damascus to make arrangements…

Hi all

My plans for next year is to teach english in a middle eastern country and Yemen is one that is high on the list. I love my food and one of the deciding factors will be what the food is like in that particular country. So what is Yemeni food like? What is the national dish? I am very familiar with Lebanese and Moroccan cuisine and wonder if it's similar? Also what is Yemen like in general for self-catering purposes, are there a variety of meats, fruit and vegetables available?

I have…

Hi,
I was wondering if anyone has camped in the Al Ruwais/Ar Ruways area of UAE. I have to travel there for work, and am staying one night at the danat beach resort paid for by my employer and would like to spend another night but am finding accomodation a bit too expensive for me. Does anyone know of any reasonable camping spots?
Thanks!

They said the 200-gram TNT stick concealed in a paper bag was found near the elevator next to Issam Fares Hall, a building off the main campus.

The officials said a wick and a detonator were wired to the bomb which was ready to explode. The bomb was taken to a police barracks for…

Which should we choose for a 1-week stay (just visiting and medium-difficulty trekking/hiking no mountaneering as such).

What I would look for
(1) indigenous culture, isolated villages with an "end-of-the-world" feel to them?
(2) weather - am I right in assuming Zagros would be warmer than Alborz in April as it is more to the south?
(3) landscapes, of course. For instance, emerald lakes like this http://www.reiseabenteuer-gus.de/bilder/almatybildnr8.htm (the photo is not Iran, BTW) can we find them…
