Hey all -

I will be flying through Dubai in a few weeks and will have a 10 hour layover between my flights in Dubai. I arrive at 5:50 in the morning and fly out at 15:40 in the afternoon on the same day.

I've never been to Dubai before or anywhere in that region for that matter and would love to get out of the airport and see what I can in that short amount of time!

What can I do in 10 hours???

How should I get in from the airport and back - how much time should that take, etc.

I would be there for breakfast and lunch so where could i eat?

Are there any good places to go for a good view of the city (other than the one I'll get as I fly out in the afternoon? ;-)

Thanks!

Yuri

Hi there

I went through Dubai and stayed one night, also arriving at 5.40am though. It's an expensive place so I made sure I had the budget to overindulge. Taxis are the only way to get around and relatively cheap (a few dollars give or take). To and from the airport, you should probably allow up to an hour and a half each way as roads gets quite congested. I went straight to the Burj al Arab for a spa treatment - you need to book as you cannot get onto the island unless they have your name at the entrance - and it was so worth it for the views and incredible service. You can also just book breakfast there - try and get something in the Skyview Bar if you want truly spectacular views. Check out their website: www.burj-al-arab.com
There is also the old village - Bastaika - for art galleries and gorgeous traditional food but I found it difficult to find someone who knew how to get there. Alternatively, ask to be taken to the old town souk and get a ferry across the river to Bastaika.
There are of course all the shopping centres ... but I avoided those as it is all very ott and you can get caught in that space for way too long if not careful - after all the airport

Have a fabulous trip.

If you want to go sight seeing take the big bus tour[hop on hop off double decker bus]at all the sights go to their website and get the info.
Most of the hotel have breakfast/lunch buffets and many are not that expensive plus there are small places to eat all around Bur Dubi and the malls have good food courts and other eating places.Just make sure you give yourslf enough time to get back to the airport after sight seeing because traffic can be a nightmare.

When you get a taxi from the airport the fare start off at AED 20 so if you want to save some take the taxi across the street to a hotel then get a taxi from there at 4 or 5 AED for a long ride..

Use taxi form airport to jumeirah road (to see Burj Al Arab) or sheikh zayed road (lot of skycraper building) rather than use big bus. If you have more time it worth otherwise you cant get back on time. Taxi everywhere but sometimes they dont want to fetch you.

Or another alternative, use C1 bus from airport to Creek area. Try the dhow, from that pay a visit to Gold Souq.

Weather are reaching 45c.

If you dont mind, lot of small pakistan, indian stall sell roti and briyani costly AED 10.

Have a nice trip.

Does anyone know the cost of tax to leave the airport, I will be in Dubai for a similar amount of time as the OP. Is there enough to do in the airport or is it worth going into the city for a couple of hours?

#5 do you mean tax or taxi?

if you mean tax it depends on your nationality - if your a citizen of one of the 33 countries that get free entry, then free... if not you can get a transit visa for valid for 96 hours for 165 Dirhams.

if you mean taxi it depends on where you want to go really!
