I want to buy a ticket flying with Emirates which includes a 20hrs stopover in Dubai. I need visa (Slovak) to enter UAE. I tried to call UAE embassy in Vienna and when I mentioned transit visa they refused to talk to me and told me to contact Emirates.

I went to Emirates office in Kuala Lumpur and they told me that if they arrange the visa it takes up to 2 weeks to get it and cost 100 USD.

But then on internet I found this information about transit visa:

"You must be sponsored by an airline operating in the UAE and you must have a valid ticket for your onward flight. Your travel documents will be stamped with an entry seal and there is no charge for this visa"

So does anybody have experience with this kind of visa? Especially if there is anybody from Slovakia, Czech Rep, Poland, Hungary etc. here (same conditions apply for all of us).

Thnx

I always travel by Emirates to the Middle East and they have always paid my visa, accommodation and food at the stopover in Dubai. The prerequisite for this benefit is that the connection time is at least 8 hours and of course, that the connecting flight is with Emirates.

Please read it: http://www.emirates.com/br/english/plan_book/essential_information/long_stopovers.aspx

I sent an email to Emirates but after almost a week I still dont have any reply from them. I went back to their office in Kuala Lumpur again today and the reply I received this time (different employe) was completly different from the one I talked to before. This one said I dont have to aply for any visa I just show up at imigration and I will get the transit visa.

Vania, I dont qualify for free stay as the first available conecting flight is leaving less than 8 hours after my arrival to Dubai. But having the option I wouldnt mind spending one day there.

But I still dont trust 100 percent the information that I can just show up at the airport and get the visa (especialy considering that I was told the oposite last week).

Obrigado Vania but I am Slovak. I have just called the Emirates call centre and they told me that I can get the transit visa on arrival but it would cost me some 75 USD. I am not going to pay this price to spent 20 hours in Dubai. Anyaway I am getting quite a different informations from all Emirates sources.

Obrigado mais uma vez.

KP100 Did you get any of the 'conflicting' information via an email? IF so, does it have the the name of the person and their contact details? If you have an email which is positive ie. it supports what you want to do - print this out, buy the ticket and go for it. IF there is any dispute with the airline or the immigration officer show the email. Also, if you get really serious grief mention that you bought the ticket in good faith based on the information provided and you will report them to IATA IF they don't let you do what you wish. Emirates are suffering with the current World Economic Downturn and really need passengers. Also, I assume you are not using a HUMAN travel agent who could have got this sorted for you without any problems.

Answer from Emirates:

  1. Call centre in UAE: you dont need to prearrange anything just show up at the airport.

  2. Call centre in Vienna: To get a transit visa you need to book a hotel in advance.

  3. Employee in Emirates in Kuala Lumpur: You have to apply for visa in advance.

  4. Another emloyee in Kl office (different day so I couldnt confront them): No need to prearrange anything.

I wanted to make the eployee from KL (4.) office to write down the information he gave me but he refused.

Anyway at the end I decided not to go to UAE. Seems that the visa would cost me some 50 Euro and I am not that keen to pay 50 Euro for a 20 hours visit in Dubai.

Anyway thanks for all comments.

Hi

We are in the same boat as you, so I'm glad we're not the only ones with this issue. My husband has a czech passport and we have a 24hr wait in Dubai in between flights back to Sydney. To find any solid information is just impossible. It seems that every official website has a little different information. http://www.dubaifaqs.com/visa-transit-dubai.php
We will be with 2 small kids on top of that and we are not that keen to book a hotel in advance if in the end we could find out that my husband can't even get the transit visa. I don't think I will go alone into the city with a 2 and 6 yr old while my husband stays at airport. So its a catch 22. Anyway we will be in Dubai this friday and see how things will go at the airport.

#7 - as usual go to a human being - aka a travel agent and ask them to sort it out. OR go to your nearest office of the airline yuo are flying with and speak to a human being. Get their contact details so if you have any issues at checkin when leaving Or when you arrive in Dubai present this person's name and contact phone number and get the official you are dealing with to speak to them.
