Hi, thanks for taking the time to read my post!

I've referred to my LP Oman, UAE & Arabian Peninsula, but would like to confirm that there is still no public bus (or some other collective) or flight from either Abu Dhabi, Dubai or Ras Al-Khaimah to Khasab, Oman.

My itinerary for some context: I arrive from the US in Dubai > travel around the UAE > Musandam peninsula > high speed ferry to Muscat to travel around Oman > fly from Muscat to Doha. This route seems to make the most sense to me, but if anyone has other ideas I'm open.

I don't wish to drive myself, I've checked every airline I know of (Fly Dubai, Air Arabia, Qatar Airways, EmiratesAir, Etihad) and there are no flights. I did find expensive flights going to Muscat first.

So, the only options seem to be:
1) Long distance taxi from UAE: LP doesn't say from where in the UAE and the cost seems high at 45OR/116USD.
2) A tour like this http://www.khasabtours.com/tour.htm#2 which is round trip so I'd be paying for transport I'm not using. I have emailed them to inquire about a one-way, and I do want to do the boat tour, however I know it can be had for cheaper if I turn up, vs book ahead like this.

Thanks for your help!

The organised Dhow tour is probably your best bet for getting from Dubai to Khasab. I'm not aware of any public buses running up north in that direction. If the tour picks you up at your hotel, transfers you to Khasab and gives you a full day dhow tour then I wouldn't be concerned about not using the transfer back to the UAE. Sometimes you need to make sacrifices in while travelling.

There are really no internal flights within the UAE as the country is so small. I've heard of a local charter service flying from Abu Dhabi/Al Ain to RAK but never heard of anyone using them. But it still doesn't solve the problem for getting up to Khasab which requires a border crossing.

I know sometimes sacrifices have to be made, but since I'm traveling for a year I'm looking to waste as little of my money as possible. I was asking about flight from either Abu Dhabi, Dubai or Ras Al-Khaimah to Khasab, Oman - not internal UAE flights.

Thanks for your response.

Hi,

Not sure if you have gone yet or not but If I was to make a suggestion it would be to almost do it the other way around although you will probably have to pay for one extra flight.
I almost did the same trip but backwards to you. There are flights from Muscat to Khasab but this is the only flights to Khasab and I think they go once per day with Oman Air.
The main reason I would say starting in Oman is because if you do your car trip and then fly to Khasab it is much much easier to get back to Dubai. As you have discovered there is no public transport to Khasab BUT when you are in Khasab there are always plenty of people from Dubai and Abu Dhabi that go to Khasab for the weekend. As there is only a few hotels then it is easy to get a lift back. I arrived this way and did some diving and everybody that was doing the diving (except me) was there from either Dubai or Abu Dhabi just for the weekend. I also met a family or two on a Dhow trip that were going back to the UAE. Obviously if you are in Dubai it is almost impossible to find somebody driving to Khasab for the weekend.
So my suggestion based on what you said above would be:
Muscat (direct or from Dubai)
Rent your car
Fly to Khasab
Lift to Dubai
See UAE
Fly to Doha

If you want some information on what you can do in a week in Oman with a car and in Khasab I have wrote it on my website http://www.travellingforfun.com/oman
I hope this is of help

Ross
