The metro operates within the city of Dubai only. Al Ain is in the emirate of Abu Dhabi. There may be a bus from Dubai but I've only driven so can't advise on buses just wanted to let you know the metro is not an option.

I'm a bit confused reg your query. If you are using a private taxi, why do you want a bus?

The metro as said above is only in parts of Dubai. Al Ain is about 200 km away from Dubai. There is a bus service from Dubai to Al Ain from the Ghubaiba bus station in Bur Dubai, but I've never seen it when travelling to Al Ain, so it may be infrequent. There will be minibuses from the Deira bus station as well leaving to Al Ain.

i would have thought that there was a regular direct bus from dubai, but if not you can catch a direct bus to abu dhabi from bur dubai bus station (2.5 hours) and then a direct bus from there (same station as arrival) to al ain (about 2 hours). the buses are good quality with comfortable seats and air conditioning. ladies sit at the front ! 2 journies would cost about $8.

make sure you spend a few hours in the excellent wildlife park.

Of course there are direct buses, as noted by posts #2 and 3. I don't know when or how often they leave but there are several per day.

Hi Mark, not sure if you already arrived but since I usually travel by bus from Al Ghubaiba Bus Station, Bur, Dubai going to Al Ain, here are the tips:

  1. It usually starts at 6:30 AM until 10:30 PM; a mini bus leaves every hour. Quite safe to travel anytime.

  2. Travel takes about 2 hours.

  3. Price is AED 20 one-way. If exchange rate is USD 3.68, about USD 11 for 2-way.

  4. From Al Ain and then back to Dubai, timing is almost the same as Dubai even for the price.

If you are going to use a Private Taxi:

  1. Price is higher. If you're taking a Private Taxi from Al Ghubaiba, but not sure if they still exists; it used to cost AED 200 for 1-way if you're the only passenger. They can take up to a maximum of 4 passengers.

  2. Travel time will be lesser. It can be 1.5 hours or less. Don't be surprised that the road has radar so the driver must adhere to the speed limit, usually an annoying sound to warn the driver starts if he's over speeding.

To date, no Metro from Dubai to Al Ain. From the 7 Emirates of UAE, Metro only exists in the Emirates of Dubai.
