My flight arrives in Abu Dhabi at 7:30pm, the LP guidebook leads me to believe it should be easy to catch a bus to the bus station, then catch another bus to Dubai YET THAT EVENING and arrive in Dubai around 10:30 or 11pm. Does this seem realistic? Anybody have suggestions? Im assuming safety is not a concern going from the bus station, on foot, to the Gold Souk hotel area in Dubai at 11pm. Is this correct?

In Abu Dhabi, is there public transit to MASDAR City yet? If so, where? And once there, can I walk around for a couple hours, then easily catch a cab to the airport? Or is this place still so new that cabs dont come out there unless you call them?

Anybody have a suggestion for a cheap(ish) hotel in Abu Dhabi for 1 night?

Thanks all,
D-

BTW, Ill be in the UAE from Oct 13-18 if anybody out there wants to meet up and/or share expenses - cabs and such. Cheers.

The bus from the airport to downtown Abu Dhabi runs every half hour - depending on how often the bus to Dubai runs the times don't seem out of line at all.

Another option is the Etihad bus to Dubai CIty - Free if you are flying Etihad and 75 dirhams if you are not. Their evening hours are 8:30, 9:30 and 10:30 every night.

Sorry - that posted too fast - I wasn't done - the bottom is where it takes you. You'd need a taxi to your hotel but it wouldn't be too far. Personal safety will not be an issue walking in Dubai, but traffic safely definitely is - it is not a friendly city for walking.

Dustin, Masdar City is so new it doesn't exist yet! Well, there's a bit of building site where it will be, allegedly, one day, but that is all.

Masdar very much exists, although I don't think anybody lives there yet and I don't know if they let visitors in at the moment. The New York Times did a photo essay about it a few days ago.

You should be able to find a bus from Abu Dhabi to Dubai at night. ie Al Ghazal transport.

You cannot walk from the Deira bus station to the Gold Souk. Take a taxi - it will cost you less than USD 10.

Masdar exists, but its a very extensive building site. You wont be able to get in to look around, and there isnt any public transport.

I'd recommend taking the Etihad bus up to Dubai. Otherwise you will spend at least an hour taking the bus onto Abu Dhabi Island (ie away from Dubai), and then taking the next bus straight back past the airport. Taxi from the Etihad drop-off point to the Gold Souk area will be around 40-50 AED depending on traffic - its definitely not walkable.

If you land at 7:30, then you might make the 8:30 Etihad bus, which will get you to Dubai for 10:30. If you decide to go into the Abu Dhabi bus station, add 1-1.5 hours to that.
