Is the tapwater in the UAE, especially in Dubai, safe to drink?

Yes. With a qualifier.
The water in the mains is absolutely fine, however, for most taps the water is then routed through storage tanks on the roof of the building. Depending on the age / maintenance of the building, the tanks may or may not be the most ideal storage facilities in the world.

If you're talking about hotels, or most restaurants, then yes, there would be no reason not to drink tap water. Older / badly maintained buildings are likely to have water tanks that make the water less than ideal.

I would disagree with Genghis and recommend that you go ahead and use bottled water or teh 20 gallon cans available at the grocery store. The quality of water differs widely depending on locality and the time of the year, and if someone is making repairs etc etc.

I believe the official response is that it is indeed safe to drink. It's desalinated, so there's no reason that it would be unsafe, unless as #1 pointed out, that some water tanks may be old and therefore contaminating the water.

However, because bottled water is available so inexpensively, most people use bottled water to drink.

Read more about it here.

In the end, people will all have their own opinions, so just make yours up...the tap water will not kill you, so it's just a preference to one over the other.

yes, buy mineral water at groceries store will keep it save from everything what we don`t want.
Because We should be careful to water. So i think to buy good water or trusted water from store, or supermarket, or Groceries store.

I just think the desalinated water tastes terrible. I certainly consider it safe - just not very good. The fact bottled water is so cheap makes it easier to go with it.

Thanx for the response.
